Robert MacIntyre endured a really difficult week at The Scottish Open.

MacIntyre dug in deep on Friday to make the cut on the number at The Scottish Open after making two birdies in his final five holes.

After his second round, MacIntyre said he was struggling with the right to left wind at The Scottish Open.

And the 28-year-old never got to grips with that all week.

He finished off his defence at The Renaissance Club with rounds of 72 and 71 to end up in a tie for 65th place.

MacIntyre came close to winning the US Open last month, but he has endured somewhat of a dip in form since then.

The man from Oban in Scotland will be hoping to rediscover his best stuff at the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

However, he seemed to be completely and utterly dejected after his final round at The Scottish Open.

Robert MacIntyre bemoans ‘terrible week’ at The Scottish Open

The Scot spoke to BBC Sport Scotland and responded when asked what went wrong for him at The Scottish Open.

He said: Horrific, terrible week, just onto next week.

I wasn’t really enjoying, yeah, just wasn’t really to be this week. I could dig into things and cause havoc but I’ll just put it down to a bad week for me and onto probably my favourite links course in the world.

Look, winning this last year was obviously a lifetime memory that’s going to last forever but, yeah, this week wasn’t what I hoped for, but we fought, made the cut and then just a poor weekend.

Jump on a ferry, get over there and put my feet up for a wee while tomorrow on the ferry, try not to get too sea sick, but next week will be far better.

Robert MacIntyre’s stats at The Scottish Open

It’s easy to see why MacIntyre struggled so badly at The Scottish Open this week, when looking at his stats.

Here is how his numbers looked from the week at The Renaissance Club:

Statistical categoryMacIntyre’s rank
Strokes gained off the tee79th
Strokes gained approach23rd
Strokes gained around the green14th
Strokes gained putting65th
Strokes gained totalT-65th

He obviously has a lot of issues to address between now and the start of The Open on Thursday.

One thing that we can be assured of is that MacIntyre will work as hard as anyone else this week, if not harder, in order to find some form ahead of the final major of the year.
