Matt Kuchar has left many golf fans angry and stunned after his final hole at the Wyndham Championship.

Kuchar said the Wyndham Championship was ‘nasty’, despite leading the way at Sedgefield Country Club after two rounds.

The American then slowly but surely dropped down the Wyndham Championship leaderboard, sitting T12 as he approached the final hole.

But after hitting his last tee shot, Kuchar made the bizarre decision to stop playing, refusing to finish due to bad light.

Rain and poor light had already impacted the Wyndham Championship, forcing the players to play 36 holes on Sunday.

But Kuchar opted to finish his final hole on Monday, despite his two playing partners completing their round and Aaron Rai winning the title.

Many angry golf fans are now saying Kuchar is totally in the wrong, with one X user saying: “I’m truly cheering for Matt Kuchar to go out and hit a blind shank tomorrow morning and make a 12. Just a disgraceful display of self-importance.”

A second user said: “Why? Darkness? I mean this isn’t exactly a good look for an already unlikeable guy. He or his team has to know his image is ‘not favorable’.”

A third commented: “After hitting into the group off the tee as well. Wild sequence,” while a fourth said: “Gotta be one of the most bizarre things I’ve seen.”

Another noted: “Kuchar’s season ends with a whimper. Pulling the plug on 18 is a tough look. Better luck next year.”

Another golf fan wrote: “Would be awesome if just hundreds of fans showed up and booed him for the final hole.”

Other angry fans commented: “What a joke lmao. Just another reason to dislike Kuchar,” and “Disqualified??? If not he should be.”

Matt Kuchar not in contention for FedExCup Playoffs

Kuchar simply left everyone stunned with his decision on the 18th hole, with commentator Jim Nantz saying: “I don’t expect we’ll be bringing you that coverage tomorrow.”

The nine-time PGA Tour winner was not in contention to win the tournament, with a victory the only possible way he could have qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs.

Having been the only player to qualify for every edition since their launch in 2007, his PGA Tour season is now coming to an end.

Kuchar carded a round three 70 to fall down the standings, with his one over fourth round so far leaving him on 11 under.

He is now seemingly fighting for money alone, with CBS journalist Kyle Porter reporting that there is a $58,000 (£45,000) difference between a 10-way tie for 12th place and a seven-way tie for 21st.
