Adrian Meronk has shared what some LIV Golf stars told him about how the tour has changed when he was weighing up whether to make the move earlier this year.
Adrian Meronk was one of those to leave the DP World Tour to join LIV Golf ahead of this season. The Polish golfer’s departure was a big blow to the traditional tours after he had seemingly come so close to qualifying for Team Europe at last year’s Ryder Cup.
Speaking to The Times, Meronk noted that he first considered a move to LIV in the days after finding out that he would not be going to Rome as one of Luke Donald’s captain’s picks.
The 30-year-old went on to win in October in Andalucia. And that would have suggested that he was motivated to do all he could to prove Luke Donald wrong.

However, Meronk ended up having his move to LIV confirmed in January. He joined Cleeks GC, alongside the likes of Martin Kaymer and Richard Bland.
LIV is in its first season. And it seems that the players on the breakaway tour are much happier with the product now, as Meronk shared what they told him when he sought their advice.

“It was a very stressful decision,” he said. “I messaged a few guys on LIV to see whether they liked it or not. They all said, ‘Great, way better than it used to be.’ That helped.”
Breakaway tour now a key player in shaping golf’s future
As a viewer, it does appear that LIV has changed a lot over its first few years. Initially, a lot of the players who made the move were coming towards the end of their careers at the highest level.
It appeared to be a chance to make a huge amount of money is a short space of time. And with that, you could understand the thinking – even if it was disappointing to see the likes of Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter seemingly bring the curtain down on their Ryder Cup careers.
But as time has gone on, bigger names closer to their peaks have made the move. And Meronk is one of those, alongside the likes of Joaquin Niemann and Abraham Ancer, yet to even reach their ceiling.
LIV have ensured that golf’s future cannot be decided without them around the table. And while it is difficult to call what happens next, you have to say that there are likely to be LIV’s fingerprints over what is to come.
