Adam Scott is one of the biggest names in the field for the Australian PGA Championship this week.

He will tee it up alongside Joaquin Niemann, Marco Penge, Min Woo Lee, and several other top players in Brisbane.

Scott has lifted the trophy twice before (2013 and 2019), but he has not won any professional event since the 2020 Genesis Invitational.

The Australian has now shared whether he still thinks he can win the biggest events after going so long without a victory.

Adam Scott still believes he can compete with the world’s best players

At 45 years old, Scott is probably in the latter stages of his professional golf career, but he has not lost confidence in his ability.

Unlike Tiger Woods, for example, Scott has been fortunate with injuries throughout his career and still feels healthy enough to compete.

“I’m starting to turn into that kind of old golf pro who’s out there,” he said before the Australian PGA Championship. “But personally, I feel physically and mentally able to do it still.

“Fortunately, I’m not in aches-and-pains phases yet, and I’m really motivated to, until I get to that point, at least try and keep competing.”

Scott also pointed to his T12 finish at the US Open this year as a reason to be optimistic about his game.

“I still feel like, by some of the indicators that everyone judges the game by today, I’m relevant,” he continued.

“I was in the last group at the US Open this year on Sunday and didn’t have a great day, but I feel like I’ve still got the game to compete at the highest level.

“I really think I just need to sharpen up my focus a little bit and get back in that winning circle. Hopefully that’s the next couple of weeks, and I can kick on, still have some good golf ahead of me.”

Although the field at the Australian PGA Championship this week is strong, it probably presents one of Scott’s better opportunities to win another event.

Adam Scott ‘excited’ for Australian PGA Championship

The Australian PGA Championship became a more significant event for Scott when it relocated to the Royal Queensland Golf Club three years ago.

That’s because Royal Queensland is his home course, so a victory there would mean even more than his two previous wins.

“I’m excited for the week ahead, playing at my boyhood home club,” Scott added. “It’s always fun to come back to Royal Queensland GC and relive junior pennant days and memories like that, so hopefully there’s a little magic out on the course for me this week.

“[A win this week] would be really special, certainly at this point in my career. I feel like the chances have been few and far between the last couple of years, and I haven’t taken advantage of them when I’ve been there, so to put myself in that position this weekend will be great.

“It’d be like a full circle moment from being a junior champion here to being a PGA champion here and putting myself in some really great company being a three-time winner.”
