Adam Scott got off to a solid start at Wyndham Championship on Thursday.
Scott carded an opening round of five-under par 65 at the Wyndham Championship, and he currently sits four shots adrift of the leader, Joel Dahmen.
The 45-year-old Australian made seven birdies and two bogeys in his opening round at Sedgefield Country Club.
Before the tournament began, Scott lifted the lid on how negotiations were progressing between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf regarding a potential merger.
Unfortunately, it appears as though the two parties are very much digging their heels in right now.
The 2013 Masters winner’s main priority at the moment, though, will be to rediscover his best form on the PGA Tour.
Scott contended at the US Open in June, but aside from that, he has experienced a fairly poor season by his standards.
Adam Scott predicts the score which will win the Wyndham Championship
Scott currently sits in 85th spot in the FedEx Cup standings, so he needs a win really this week, if he is to be at the Tour Championship in a few weeks’ time.

The 45-year-old spoke to reporters after his round about a variety of topics.
Firstly, Scott was asked what clicked for him on the back nine as he went on to shoot a four-under par 31.
He said: “You know, the back nine is the easier nine here. I was trying to stay patient. I wasn’t too concerned about a bit of a slow first nine holes as long as I did put it into gear on the next. And I managed to, you know, I’m in that spot I can’t be too patient, I have to have a go of a few things. I was trying to remind myself of that when I was picking targets out there to be as aggressive as I can.“
Scott was then asked what score he thinks he needs to reach to win the Wyndham Championship.
The Australian replied: “I’m going to need to get like 20 under to think of anything, so I better not be 1 under through day one or I’m going to leave myself a lot of work, so nice to make a few birdies. And of course as much as I think about moving on, I’d like to win this tournament, so that’s — it’s a similar kind of scenario for me.“
Scott will probably have to go a few shots better than 20-under par if he is to win this week. The golf course is clearly very gettable, and there are so many good players near the top of the leaderboard right now.
Adam Scott’s 2025 PGA Tour results
Scott has a lot of work to do if he is to make 2025 a positive year.
The Australian has been nowhere near his best this season. Here is how his results look to date:
| Results | Scott’s totals |
| Events played | 16 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-5s | 0 |
| Top-10s | 0 |
| Top-25s | 5 |
| Missed cuts | 3 |
Those results are nowhere near good enough, especially considering Scott’s talent and ability.
However, a win this week would change everything for him. His game certainly looks to be in fine fettle but it will just depend on whether he can maintain his current form for the next three days.
