It feels some time now since we’ve heard anything at all in terms of a PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger and Adam Scott has now broken the silence ahead of the Wyndham Championship.

Scott was part of a group that enjoyed a trip to the White House a while ago to see if President Trump could help iron out some issues.

At the time, there was hope a deal would be done quickly with Trump’s influence.

However, nothing has progressed and the reality is that right now, we seem to be further away than ever.

The PGA Tour has a new CEO in place in Brian Rolapp and Rolapp himself has spoken about LIV’s team element just recently.

Now, ahead of the Wyndham Championship this week, Adam Scott has given his thoughts on the appointment of Rolapp and any potential merger.

Adam Scott says where a PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger currently is

Naturally as one of the elder statesmen on TOUR, Adam Scott is well placed to answer questions on the future of golf and all that goes with it.

However, when pressed on Rolapp and golf’s future ahead of the Wyndham, Scott admitted that things aren’t really any different.

“Yeah, obviously there’s not much happening between — I don’t know if more White House visits are really necessary. It was really quite an experience, I have to say,” Scott admitted.

“I haven’t, those conversations haven’t advanced far from there and with Brian stepping in, a lot of that’s going to fall onto his desk now. I think that he needs some time to kind of really get up to speed and understand what’s going on with that. And yeah, I mean, look, his credentials are obviously excellent on paper, but I have a few things that I really liked about Brian.

“I think like his personality from the little bit that I know of it, like his calmness to him. I know he’s really excited to take on this role going forward, but he has a very calm nature about him, you know, to me, which was one of the guys involved, I thought I quite liked that. I think he’s coming in at a very interesting time in the professional game and I think that calm demeanour’s going to serve him well.”

Have LIV Golf missed their chance?

There was a point where it felt like golf wouldn’t survive without some of the names that LIV took and that they were the ones holding all the cards.

However, right now, the PGA Tour seems to go from strength to strength and while it’s good to see the likes of DeChambeau, Koepka and more competing at the majors, it’s not the be-all and end-all that it once appeared.

In 2025, it feels like it is the PGA Tour who have swung the balance in their favour.

There’s a very realistic feel around that the PGA just don’t need to push anything and ultimately, it’s those from the LIV side who need to make something happen.
