Adam Scott has had the opportunity to play golf alongside a number of the greatest players of all-time during his career, with the Australian making his first appearance in a major 25 years ago.
Adam Scott has been one of the best players for the last quarter of a century. He won the 2013 Masters, while the 44-year-old spent a number of months as the world number one in the world rankings.
Scott was obviously around for much of Tiger Woods’ peak, while he was a teammate to the likes of Ernie Els and Vijay Singh at the Presidents Cup. And of course, Scott boasts what is arguably the finest-looking golf swing the game has potentially ever seen.
So few players are better equipped when it comes to identifying the best of the best.
Adam Scott names the greatest driver of all-time
Taking part in a video with Grant Horvat, Scott was asked which players come to mind when asked who is in a league of their own when it comes to ball-striking.
And while he initially did not mention Rory McIlroy, Scott did suggest that he would pick the Northern Irishman as potentially the greatest the game has had in one particular area.

“I think one that would probably get overlooked quickly these days was Vijay in his prime, just a deep thud on the strike of a five iron. It’s just mashed at the bottom,” he said.
“Of course, Rory’s driving is just off the charts. It’s hard to think he’s not the best driver of the golf ball ever.”
How Rory McIlroy added speed to his swing
There are few sights in golf quite like McIlroy in full flow with his driver. It has arguably been the biggest strength within his game across his career, with the 35-year-old regularly amongst the longest hitters on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy did lose his way when he tried to keep up with Bryson DeChambeau in 2020. But he has got himself back on track in more recent times. And speaking to Horvat last month, McIlroy explained how to add speed to the golf swing.
“If anyone wants to seriously think about adding more speed, learn how to move the thing fast first and then you can reign it in and you can start worrying about [direction]. The one thing I realised is if I can get my fastest speed as high as possible, then my baseline comes up,” he said.
Obviously, there is so much more which goes into making McIlroy potentially the best driver of all-time. But it is remarkable how he manages to make everything look as effortless as it sounds.
