It’s finally here. The Masters 2024 gets underway today as the eyes of the golfing world descend upon Augusta National.
The first major of the year brings with it the usual excitement and glamour, while there are a number of side stories involved this time around as well.
The obvious story at play is the return of certain LIV Golf players. A number of them will be keen to make an impression, while the defending champion is Jon Rahm, who shocked the world last year by making the switch to LIV.

Of course, other big names from LIV are playing. The likes of Dustin Johnson, Bryson Dechambeau and Brooks Koepka are all teeing it up.
Those three will all fancy their chances of being in the mix as well, especially Johnson, who has won at Augusta before.
However, there is one LIV Golf star that isn’t quite as confident in his own abilities.
That man, is Tyrrell Hatton.

As we know, Hatton is one of the more entertaining golfers to follow around the course.
The 32-year-old Englishman has gained notoriety for cursing himself while playing and has become one of the most watched players on LIV when he’s mic’d up for certain rounds.
Of course, there is a top golfer in there with Hatton as well. A one-time PGA Tour winner and six-time European Tour winner, Hatton is one of the world’s best.
However, his record around Augusta is poor, with an 18th placed finish in 2021 his best ever result.
And when asked by Sky Sports what it might take for an Englishman to win this week, Hatton basically said he’d got no chance of winning.
“Well, you shouldn’t ask me. I’ve got no chance, but maybe ask him (Matt Fitzpatrick),” Hatton said.
Quite whether Hatton can pull it out of the and actually win, remains to be seen.
On his day, he is one of the best in the world and he is still ranked a top 20 player in the world, despite his move to LIV and lack of OWGR points on that tour.
Hatton, then, might well end up eating his own words if he does perform.
