11-time PGA Tour winner secures last minute entry into the US Open at Pinehurst alongside Adam Scott

The US Open takes place this weekend and it looks like one of golf’s biggest names from the last two decades has found his way into the tournament.

Pinehurst plays host this time in what could be a difficult test for the world’s best golfers over four days.

Last year, Wyndham Clark held off Rory McIlroy to win at LA Country Club, while back in 2022, Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick won his first major.

Going into this week, all eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler after his win at The Memorial this weekend. Scheffler is dominating in 2024, and he’s become the ultimate benchmark for players to try and reach.

Of course, there are plenty on the field who will fancy their chances at Pinehurst. And that includes a few experienced heads who have snuck into the tournament late on.

And after Adam Scott made it into the top 60 to seal his place in the event, another experienced head has also sealed his spot.

Sergio Garcia seals late entry into the US Open at Pinehurst

Garcia had failed to seal a spot via qualifying and was facing a nervous wait to see how the field shaped up.

And luckily for the Spaniard, he has managed to sneak one of the final four spots after being put down as a first alternate.

For Garcia, it extends his US Open appearance streak to 25 straight and means LIV Golf will have another one of their top players represented at Pinehurst.

Coincidentally, Garcia’s best ever finish in a US Open came at Pinehurst as well, when he finished in a tie for third as Michael Campbell beat out Tiger Woods to win.

Garcia will not be among the favourites to win the tournament this year.

However, given he is a Masters winner, the experience and knowhow of getting over a line in a major might just count for something on a difficult track.
