If you want to base your golf swing on anyone, then trying to follow what Rory McIlroy looks like through the golf ball isn’t a bad idea.
McIlroy has long been regarded as one of the golfers who has the near perfect golf swing.
Being one of the longest hitters on TOUR, it’s no surprise McIlroy has a more than pleasing on the eye swing and over the years, he’s developed it further to add power and distance as well.
Do you think Rory McIlroy will win two or more majors before he retires?
Of course, we’re not saying that everyone can emulate McIlroy and to try and do so would be silly.
However, we can all take a few things from the world number two, including a great tip on how to make sure the swing at least starts in the right way.
Rory McIlroy’s tip for making sure his golf swing starts properly
Rory McIlroy has quickly developed a number of coaching and tip videos over the years which can help us all.

As time goes on and McIlroy gets towards the end of his career, we’re all hoping he has plenty more to say as well.
For now, though, we can look back at a clip from earlier in the year where McIlroy explained the simple feeling he has to make sure the swing is right.
“One of the biggest keys in my swing is making sure the club stays in front of my body on the way back. You know if I keep the club in front of me, it just makes the rest of the swing a lot easier,” McIlroy explained.
“Sometimes if the club gets behind me early, then it makes it more difficult and the club has to travel a lot further to get back to the ball. So for me, what’s really simple is I just try to keep the club in front of me and from there, it works up on the right plane and then it makes the downswing a whole lot easier.”
We can’t all be like Rory McIlroy but this advice helps
As mentioned above, trying to completely emulate Rory McIlroy is just not feasible for most golfers.
There is a reason he is the number two player in the world and it’s taken him years of hard work and repetition to get to the point where he is now with his swing.
Nevertheless, this is still priceless advice from McIlroy.
The simple feeling of just looking and noticing the golf club being just in front of the body is about as simple a practice drill as you could wish for. From there, there’s a lot more that has to happen but in the main, this gets you off to a perfect start.
