It’s not very often we see Scottie Scheffler make a mistake on the golf course but for once, we’ve been treated to something a bit more ‘human’ from the world number one.

Scheffler is known worldwide for being robotic in his approach to the game and in the main, he simply doesn’t make errors.

His form over the last 24 months in particular has proved that and it’s no surprise he’s comfortably the world’s best player.

Do you think Scottie Scheffler should play more outside of the United States?

“I haven’t really played too much golf internationally. I always come over here and try to play this tournament and The Open Championship. I haven’t played in Asia or Australia yet as a professional.

“With the way our schedule is on the [PGA Tour], the thing that’s most important to me is my time at home. It would be wonderful to be able to play an international schedule, but right now we play most of our tournaments in the States and I come over here for these few weeks.

“The off-season for us is typically where guys will go play in Asia and Australia or start the year in Dubai. For me, it’s important to get time at home because that’s my priority and playing tournaments that I can.”

Scheffler’s response when asked why he doesn’t play more internationally

“I want to play golf when I want to play golf. I want to play in the locations that I love to go to, and I want to play the majors and the Ryder Cup. That’s it.

“I think there’s an opportunity for it to be worldwide. Golf isn’t just played in America. It didn’t start in America… I think there’s an opportunity to have some of the bigger tournaments outside of America.”

Nevertheless, sometimes this wonderful game of golf gets us all. And Scottie is no exception.

In fact, over at the Hero World Challenge, Scheffler has very much been bitten by what most amateurs experience on a weekly basis and golf fans have been all over it on social media.

Scottie Scheffler delights amateur golf fans with error at the Hero World Challenge

For Scottie Scheffler, getting up down around the greens has almost become too easy in the last few years.

We are so used to seeing Scheffler effortlessly get the ball near and then in the hole that if he does make any minor error, it stands out a mile.

Indeed, during round three of the Hero World Challenge, Scheffler made a big mess of trying to get up and down on the par three 8th hole. Scheffler tried to chip his effort into the banking and release it up onto the green but saw his ball stop short and come rolling all the way back down to his feet and into the water drain.

And over on social media, golf fans couldn’t resist commenting.

One fan suggested Scheffler was ‘one of us’ after his error, while another was quick to make the point of how good Scheffler was with his recovery.

“He shot 31 on this 9 and only bogeyed this hole. It’s hard…but not hard for him”

Another fan made the same point as Scheffler recovered.

“6 under after 7. Not too hard. Blink and guy is leading again.”

Although another golf fan suggested Scheffler’s lapse might be costing him.

“That was so f—– depressing to watch. We all have money on Scottie”

How many of you can relate to what Scheffler has just experienced here?

Still, Scheffler’s ability to bounce back was once again in focus, as another golf lover pointed out how it’s all about mental strength.

“Iron clad “axiom” in golf: If you can’t “forget” the previous shot, in particular if you’re still “hanging onto” the anger, frustration, etc. of a bad outcome of your previous shot… you are NOT prepared to hit the next shot!”

Scottie Scheffler is too good to let one error bother him

It’s said a fair bit in the comments here but Scheffler just proved why he is world number one after he made this error.

He recovered to make par on the next hole but overall, he went out in just 31 for his front nine, before going on to birdie three of the opening five holes down the back nine and move back into the lead.

This is what makes Scheffler so good. The mental resilience to move on from the next shot and simply get on with things is outstanding.

With just a day to go in the Bahamas, it already looks like Scottie is going to be the man to beat and the rest of the field will need more uncharacteristic errors like this to even stand a chance.
