Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game, if not the greatest.

The really interesting thing about Woods is that he’s actually quite old school when it comes to his approach to the game.

Woods has a knack for executing extraordinary golf shots under the most extreme pressure.

However, the 49-year-old is renowned for doing all of the simple things really well too.

Woods has 15 major championships and a record-equalling 82 PGA Tour titles to his name.

It’s a common debate regarding who is the best golfer of all time, but even if Jack Nicklaus gets the nod, Woods is undoubtedly the second best.

So if you need advice on how to hit pitch shots, there are not many better people to learn from than Tiger.

Woods is well known for his more natural approach to shots inside 100 yards.

A lot of the best players in the modern era seem to do everything so robotically.

The game has undoubtedly changed, but Woods still relies on his feel just like he did during his prime.

Woods has explained how he likes to hit short shots from around 70-80 yards out.

He said, “I’ve got a partial wedge here. It’s 77 yards, I’m already think this is my 60. I normally hit my 60 about 92 yards, this being 77 I will obviously take a little bit off of it. I don’t play it by a clock system. I don’t understand how people do that or even a percentage. I do everything with feel in my hands and my body and be connected with the shot.

“I like to play little soft draws with it, slightly flighted. I start seeing the shot whether I want to hit a cut or a draw, where I want the ball to end up, where’s the easiest putt from, trouble, water, bunkers, slopes, tiers, what have you.

“But I’m starting to feel it in my hands. I’ve already picked out a target, an aiming spot. Once I build my stance I will make adjustments based on how I feel, wind, I may feel more adrenaline and the ball will go further or it’s cold and I’m a little stiff it’s not going to go as far, so I’ll make those adjustments as I get over the golf ball.

“I’m already getting a feel for this shot, it’s 77 yards. I like to hit it with a little more arms, and flight it down just a little bit. So I’ll put the ball up in my stance just a touch and I’ll flight it down with my arms and my hands. Take one look, another look, use my arms.“

When Woods burst onto the scene nearly 30 years now, he was like nothing we had seen before.

The Stamford graduate was a phenomenon, and he went on to compile a truly unbelievable record in the game.

Woods’ results above can be matched by few. Only Jack Nicklaus has won more majors than him, and that may well have been a very different story had he remained healthy.

Unfortunately for him, and golf fans, his body has let him down on far too many occasions over the past 17 years.

Hopefully we will see him back competing at some point in the near future.
