Scottie Scheffler proved once again this season why he is the best golfer in the world, with his approach one that every amateur golfer should be looking to emulate.
Scheffler knows why amateurs struggle with their swings, with his swing set to go down as one of the greatest the game has ever seen.
Hours and hours of practice behind the scenes have helped generate four major championship wins, and 19 PGA Tour titles in total.
Scheffler claimed six of those PGA Tour wins this season alone, and is certain to add to his ever-growing tally in 2026.
Dominating the game in several areas on the course for some time, the world number one has particularly shone around the greens.
Scottie Scheffler’s tip to help amateurs improve their chipping off downhill lies
Fortunately for amateurs, he shared a simple tip for TaylorMade regarding his approach to chipping off downhill lies.
Carrying out a demonstration in 2023, Scheffler explained: “If we’re going to go to the far pin down there, I would probably take a club that I just get a lot of run out of.
“I could hit it with a 60 but I think it’s pretty simple just to do it with a pitching wedge. That way I only have to fly the ball a little bit, I can fly into this down grain and just let it run the whole way to the pin.
“And on this one, it’s just going to be the same thing, normal grip and a good wide base. Feel like I’m swinging down the slope.
“Get all your body weight. Feel like you’re going down the slope. That way it almost feels like a flat chip. Pick a spot where you’re going to land it. Then just go.”

Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 PGA Tour around the green stats
Unsurprisingly, his effort certainly wasn’t bad, as was the case for most of his shots in that area on the PGA Tour in 2025.
He was as impressive as ever around the greens, often leaving the rest of the field scratching their heads.

Worryingly for the rest of the PGA Tour, however, there does seem to still be room for improvement for Scheffler in various areas.
He may also have a chip on his shoulder from ending his latest season with a frustrating and disappointing Ryder Cup loss with the USA.
