Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world by a long way, so it makes sense that every single amateur golfer looking to improve their games should be open to listening to any advice he may share.
Scheffler has won 19 PGA Tour tournaments since February 2022, including four major championships.
Over the past 18 months or so, Scheffler has been peerless on the PGA Tour, and his next challenge will be to start making real inroads into the records set by many of the legends of the game.
His game is immaculate in every single department but even when he’s not at his best, he still contends and sometimes, even manages to win.
Scheffler never ceases to amaze with his outstanding ability and his hunger to keep getting better really is hugely impressive.
However, ahead of any round of golf that he plays, his preparation begins long before his first swing on the driving range.
Scottie Scheffler shared the reason amateurs struggle with their swings
Scheffler himself certainly doesn’t have a textbook golf swing.
There is an awful lot of foot movement at impact and his hands are incredibly high at the top of his backswing.

However, if you break his movement down, his clubface is in the perfect position throughout the entirety of his swing.
That said, the world number one’s key to success focuses on something he does long before he starts hitting golf balls.
Scheffler was taking part in a golf clinic when he was asked what he believes is the main reason why so many amateur golfers struggle with their swings.
He said: “Most amateur golfers that struggle with their swings, it’s not because they lack coordination, it’s because their bodies physically can’t move the way that it’s supposed to.
“I have the same stretching routine, whether I’m playing golf or not. I have a routine that probably takes 20 minutes to do every morning and then, I mean, we spend a lot of time in the gym, working out four or five days a week to kind of stay in shape.“
Copy Scottie Scheffler’s advice by implementing Gary Player’s practice drill
Gary Player has always been a strong advocate for stretching and remaining flexible and supple in order to improve.
Many years ago, Player shared some great advice on the best way to get ready for playing a round of golf.
He said: “Gene Sarazen gave me this tip as a young man, one of the three best tips I’ve ever had.
“For 61 years, I’ve been working on stretching. Stretching is a vital ingredient in any sport, or even sitting at a desk in your office.
“I’ve tried all kinds of things and I do all kinds of things when I’m in the gym and in my room.
“But a simple little thing like being able to pull your leg right against your chest, that’s stretching your hamstrings or your lower back.
“But here’s the daddy of them all, this beats anything in the world for golf. It’s a heavily weighted club. Get one according to your strength.
“I’m going to swing it back with a full turn and really stretch and then follow through. You must swing it left-handed as well. If you swing right-handed, you must swing it left-handed.
“For every once I swing right-handed, I swing it twice left-handed. Gene Sarazen gave me this tip as a young man. Play well.“
If you heed the advice given by Scheffler and Player, your golf game may well improve significantly as a result.
