Jack Nicklaus has been around the block more than enough to know everything there is to know about golf so when he’s dishing out the advice, it’s worth taking note.
The 18-time major winner has had some remarkable moments in his career and widely considered to be the greatest golfer of all time, alongside Tiger Woods.
Over the years, Nicklaus has given us countless interviews filled with nuggets of information and in the modern era, with video and social media everywhere, we get to look back on these and learn.
Of course, one of the key aspects Nicklaus brings to the table is his knowledge of the game and quite simply, the golf swing.
Indeed, while still playing the game as an active player, Nicklaus once revealed what he believes is the most important thing for amateurs to learn in the golf swing.

Jack Nicklaus’ tip for amateurs when it comes to swinging a golf club
Like so many of the game’s top stars, Jack Nicklaus is a man worth listening to when he’s giving out the advice.
Nowadays, approaching 90-years-old, Nicklaus is still good for a tip or two but when he was playing and still very much in tune with his swing, it was worth listening even closer.
And looking back at an old lesson, Nicklaus has told amateurs what the single most important thing is in the golf swing.
“The single most important element in swinging a golf club, is a steady head. Without a steady head, all the other fundamentals go out the window,” Nicklaus said.
“I like to feel like I have a stake through my body and driven all the way into the ground and then I rotate around that stake when I play a shot. It sets up a slight hip forward body angle, and that body angle is right here, and then I try and maintain that angle and my head position throughout the golf swing.
“So let’s try to keep the head right in one spot and leave it there throughout the golf shot.”
Amateurs can learn so much from the greats of the game
Part of getting better at any sport is having the ability to absorb information and take feedback on board.
All the best players across the whole sporting world do this, they listen, seek advice from those who have come before, and then build those elements into their own games.
For amateurs, listening to old clips from players as good as Jack Nicklaus is always worth it.
It might not help every single player out there, but these nuggets of information can be game-changing and ultimately, improve your golf game.
