Bryson DeChambeau’s useful tip to help amateurs who are struggling with their ball striking

Bryson DeChambeau knows about ball striking more than most, and amateur golfers would be wise to listen to any and all advice he has to offer.

DeChambeau is a two-time major champion, and claimed nine wins on the PGA Tour before making the switch to LIV Golf.

American star DeChambeau joined LIV Golf in 2022, and remains one of the most high-profile players on the Saudi-backed tour.

The 32-year-old finished third in this season’s individual standings, clinching his only title at LIV Golf Korea.

Bryson DeChambeau’s tip to help amateurs struggling with their ball striking

DeChambeau’s clean ball striking has been crucial to his success over the years, with the icon having once offered advice to those struggling in that specific aspect of golf.

Providing a demonstration, he explained: “When you’re trying to strike the golf ball, you have to make sure you’re hitting ball, and then making a divot after.

“So it’s going to be ball, you’re hitting the ball first, and then making a divot after. Not divot, ball, divot, or divot, ball and thinning it.

“It’s a strike down on it sort of motion. You’re driving your right arm into the ground. So this right arm is straightening through the ground.

“And I’m not trying to strike it down to the ground, I’m trying to strike it in front of the ball. So I’m trying to actually push it down the line. You’re always pushing it down the line.

“That’s something that could help people that are struggling with contact control. You want to have great contact control.”

How Bryson DeChambeau has demonstrated his impressive ball striking

DeChambeau has become known for his huge hitting with the driver, having really bulked up over the years.

But his ability has not been limited to that single club, with the American having really improved in various other areas throughout his career.

Using a seven-iron, he carded his first-ever hole-in-one on the par-three 16th at The Masters in 2019, while he ranked first for scrambling on LIV Golf in 2025.

Incidentally ranking second for driving distance, his impressive all-round game was epitomised by his T4 rankings for both birdies and eagles.
