Tiger Woods is well known for being a huge fan of both Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
Woods won all there is to win in the game, with 82 PGA Tour titles and 15 major championships to his name.
He also made a record 142 consecutive cuts and he spent 683 weeks as the world number one – more than anyone else since the rankings’ inception in 1986.
Both McIlroy and Scheffler have ambitions of at least getting close to those numbers posted by the man who many call the greatest of all time.
Scheffler and McIlroy are behind Woods on the all-time win percentage list on the PGA Tour.
The 49-year-old leads the way with an incredible win rate of 21.7%, with Scheffler on 11.2% and McIlroy on 10.9%.

Ryan Palmer recently suggested that PGA Tour players are just as fearful of seeing Scheffler’s name on the leaderboard as they were with Woods.
But what is Tiger’s take on the current number one and number two in the world?
What Tiger Woods said Rory McIlroy was capable of doing which Scottie Scheffler cannot
The two best players in the world right now both have their strengths and weaknesses.
However, it’s pretty obvious that Scheffler’s weaknesses, if he has any at all, are simply not as destructive as McIlroy’s.
That said, there is something that the Northern Irishman is capable of doing that Scheffler is not.
That’s according to Woods anyway.
Back in 2024, the 15-time major winner offered high praise for both players.
He said, “Scottie is not as long as Rory, and he can’t probably separate himself on a golf course with pure length. But his ball striking and the amount of greens he hits, he just wears you out that way. Then. He has an amazing pair of hands around the greens. If he putts awful he finishes inside the top 10, if he putts decent he wins, if he putts great he runs away. He’s that good a ball striker and that good all around player. And Rory, the way he’s able to take over a golf course and overpower it, I kind of remember that when I was younger, but it’s been a while!”
Whilst Woods is correct with his comments on McIlroy’s power, Scheffler is far more consistent than the current Masters champion.
If the two played each other 10 times on a neutral golf course, I’m convinced that Scheffler would win at least seven times.
McIlroy vs Scheffler 2025 PGA Tour results
McIlroy and Scheffler have been the two standout players on the PGA Tour this season.
And here is how their respective records stack up against one another’s in 2025:
| PGA Tour results | Rory McIlroy | Scottie Scheffler |
| Events played | 10 | 12 |
| Wins | 3 | 3 |
| Top-5s | 4 | 7 |
| Top-10s | 5 | 9 |
| Top-25s | 8 | 12 |
| Missed cuts | 1 | 0 |
McIlroy might just have the edge on Scheffler right now in the Player of the Year race.
His win at The Masters and the fact that he completed the Grand Slam with that victory carries a serious amount of weight.
However, the 28-year-old isn’t too far behind him. One more win for Scheffler will tip the scales in his favour, and McIlroy will be well aware of that.
