Jack Nicklaus has so many memorable moments in his record 45 appearances at the Masters Tournament.
Nicklaus won the event six times – more than anyone else – and finished in the top 10 another 16 times.
He’s undoubtedly the greatest performer in Masters history, even ahead of Tiger Woods, who praised him for something he did twice at Augusta National three decades ago.
Indeed, Nicklaus played two shots at the 1995 Masters, which Woods once described as “unbelievable.”

Jack Nicklaus played two ‘unbelievable’ shots at 1995 Masters Tournament
Woods shared his thoughts on every hole at Augusta National to masters.com in 2016 and, in his comments on the 5th hole, complimented Nicklaus.
The Golden Bear had two eagles at the par-4 5th in 1995, first holing out with a 5-iron from 180 yards in the first round.
Unbelievably, he did the same again two days later with a 7-iron, which landed just short of the flag and rolled up into the cup.
Woods explained: “When I first started playing here, I would hit driver over the bunkers on the left side of the fairway and almost reach the crosswalk. I’d be left with a sand wedge to the green almost every day. Now you really can’t do that, and it has changed how I approach this hole.
“Now I hit 3-wood and steer clear of the sand. That leaves me a longer club in — about a 6- or 7-iron — but it’s the best play. Any hole location on the back-right you can take a run at, but this, again, is where discipline becomes critical.
“My years of experience playing the hole and picking the brains of other past champions who have had success all come down to the same thing: Carry that crest that’s about 12 to 13 yards into the green, put the ball in the center, make your par and move on. You have to trust your lag putting to get the job done and pick up a birdie somewhere else.
“If the pin is left-middle on the green, there’s a little spot over there, just beyond the crest, that will funnel the ball toward the hole. In that case, you might be left with a putt under 15 feet for a possible birdie. But it’s rare we see that pin anymore. Jack Nicklaus’ two eagles here in the first and third rounds of 1995 were unbelievable.”

The hardest holes at the 2024 Masters Tournament
The hardest hole at the 2024 Masters was the par-4 11th, White Dogwood, which is the start of Amen Corner (holes 11, 12 and 13). The average score was 4.386, more than one-third of a shot over par.
| Hole | Par | Yards | Average | Rank | +/- |
| 11 | 4 | 520 | 4.386 | 1 | +0.386 |
| 18 | 4 | 465 | 4.366 | 2 | +0.366 |
| 5 | 4 | 495 | 4.302 | 3 | +0.302 |
| 17 | 4 | 440 | 4.285 | 4 | +0.285 |
| 4 | 3 | 240 | 3.265 | 5 | +0.265 |
The 5th, which Nicklaus eagled twice in the same tournament, was the third-hardest last year at 0.302 over par on average.
The most difficult par-3 last time out was the 4th hole, unsurprisingly, at 240 yards long. That might’ve been a 3-wood yardage in Nicklaus’ heyday.
