John Daly has never been one to hold back when it comes to an opinion on the game of golf and looking back at some past suggestions, he’s called for big changes to the PGA TOUR Champions.
The senior tour is still home to some of the best golfers in the world, albeit with the obvious caveat that you need to be over 50 to compete.
Daly is among those golfers who still try and get out there on the TOUR Champions. He has, though, only ever won once on that particular tour.
Does the rule on mud balls if you hit the fairway need changing?
Still, that hasn’t stopped him being outspoken about the senior tour in general and back in 2018, Daly called for some major changes to be implemented.
John Daly’s suggestions to improve the PGA TOUR Champions
Golf is a game of so many rules and regulations that at times it can be pretty hard to keep up.
We see players on the PGA Tour penalised throughout the season for all manner of different breaches and by the time they get to the seniors, Daly believes they should be cut some slack.

Speaking in an interview back in ’18, Daly revealed he’d bring in a number of changes to help make the events a bit more ‘edgy’.
“We’re not getting world ranking points on this tour,” Daly said at the time.
“So let’s have some fun. Who cares (if we anchor)? Our tour got killed on this thing. We’re 50 years or older. We should have more fun. I know it probably won’t change much, but that’s just kind of the way I feel.”
Daly also hints at free drops – even from the fairway – and increasing the number of clubs allowed in the bag above 14.

Daly’s potential rule changes may be too extreme
Daly’s comments and suggestions here are interesting and he does make a point about introducing something a bit different to the main tour.
However, players are already allowed to use carts on the TOUR Champions and so introducing a raft of other changes might be a step too far.
The idea behind allowing anchoring seems a bit pointless, and in a way, it could take things too far away from the actual game those players have spent years perfecting.
For now, the senior tour does just fine. There are other tours like LIV Golf and also the TGL for those seeking complete change.
