The PGA Tour season for 2025 is all but in the books as the RSM Classic will wrap things up and help dictate who we will and won’t see next season.
With the PGA Tour dropping the cards it hands out to 100 from 125, a number of players who we might normally see competing will drop away this year.
With 2025 all but done, it’s now a good time to look back on how things went through the year and dig into the stats a bit as well.
As we all know, putting is a key element of the game of golf. In general, if you putt well, then you launch yourself to within a chance of winning.
However, just how many of the top ten for strokes gained in putting, actually managed a win in 2025?

The PGA Tour players who won in 2025 while being top ten for putting
Much like we saw with Brian Campbell and his short hitting off the tee, one metric is not the be-all and end-all.
However, it does help if you can consistently putt well. In the main, those who putt well over a four-day stretch on any PGA Tour event, generally end up in the mix.
But when we take a look at the top ten for the season in 2025 in terms of strokes gained putting, it does tell a slightly different tale.
Do you think the PGA Tour reducing the amount of cards for 2026 to 100 is a good thing?
Only three of the top ten in that list actually won a PGA Tour event this year. Rory McIlroy was one of them, while Garrick Higgo and Cameron Young were the other two.
In fact, even beyond the top ten, you have to go right down to 19th place and Ben Griffin to find the next player to have won in 2025.
At the top of the list, Sam Burns hasn’t had a win since 2023, while second-placed Taylor Montgomery has yet to record a victory in his 79 PGA Tour events.
The top putters on the PGA Tour in 2025
There are some good players in the top ten but apart from McIlroy and potentially Cam Young, none of them are real ‘superstars’ of the game.
To find the next star after Scheffler, we look at Tommy Fleetwood down in 20th, while Scheffler himself came in 21st, which when coupled with how good he was in the other stat categories, shows why he won so much.
As for the top ten, they are listed here.
| Player | Strokes gained putting average (2025) |
| Sam Burns | 0.983 |
| Taylor Montgomery | 0.899 |
| Harry Hall | 0.881 |
| Garrick Higgo | 0.661 |
| Denny McCarthy | 0.656 |
| Cam Young | 0.642 |
| Rory McIlroy | 0.597 |
| Nico Echavarria | 0.593 |
| Brandt Snedeker | 0.574 |
| Sam Ryder | 0.557 |
Looking at that list, there are players like McCarthy, Burns and Young who are more than capable of getting more wins in 2025, as well as McIlroy of course.
As for the aforementioned Scottie Scheffler, if he can get into this top ten list in 2026, then we could see new records set once again by the world number one.
