Cameron Young has been a completely different player since securing his first ever win on the PGA Tour in August.

Young finished off the 2025 PGA Tour season in fine form and, as a result, received a captain’s pick from Keegan Bradley for the US Ryder Cup team.

Many are now tipping Young to go on and achieve consistent PGA Tour success after his fine showing at Bethpage Black.

Young’s mental strength was questioned in the past, but his performances over the last two months of the season silenced his critics.

He finally got the monkey off his back by winning his first ever PGA Tour event at the Wyndham Championship in August.

But a lot happened in the build-up to that victory.

When looking for a specific incident which could have been the turning point in his season, it’s hard to ignore what happened at the RBC Canadian Open four months ago.

The American Ryder Cup star is well known for running hot under the collar out on the golf course.

However, one incident back in June when he openly admitted to being incredibly angry may well have propelled him on to finish the season strongly.

Young experienced a really underwhelming 2025 season up until his T-4 finish at the RBC Canadian Open.

However, he was absolutely fuming after missing the play-off by one stroke at Osprey Valley.

When asked how he was feeling after bogeying the par-five final hole during the final round of the Canadian Open, Young said: “This very moment, a lot of anger, a bit of frustration. I couldn’t have hit two better shots on the last hole. I don’t hit 3-wood that far, and it’s blowing straight into the wind, and it decided to bounce all the way to the back woods.

“I thought in the air I was going to have about a 12-footer to win the tournament, and it ended up somewhere I was going to struggle to make par, let alone make a 4. Pretty upset. Played pretty well. Kind of just want to go home right now.“

However, after his disappointment in Canada, he secured a T-4 finish at the US Open the following week and then recorded five top-11 finishes in his final eight events of the season, including his win at the Wyndham Championship.

It’s fair to suggest that Young used the anger he felt after his finish at the Canadian Open and turned it into a positive heading into the final few months of the season.

Young showed during the Ryder Cup just how good he is.

The 28-year-old New Yorker oozed confidence in his home state and ended the week with a 3-1-0 record.

However, the foundations for that fine display began at the RBC Canadian Open.

It took Young 94 events before he won his first PGA Tour tournament.

If he hasn’t won at least three or four more in his next 94, it would be a huge surprise to everyone.
