Jack Nicklaus will forever be known as a golfing legend, with The Golden Bear having left an indelible mark on the game.
Nicklaus thinks he could have won more majors, having retired with 18 such wins to his name after a stunning career.
Tiger Woods is his nearest rival on that list with 15, with Walter Hagen in third place with 11 major championship wins.
But it may be the end for Woods after his latest setback, with the 82-time PGA Tour winner having just undergone surgery on a ruptured achilles tendon.
That major injury is certain to keep Woods out of contending for majors for quite some time, meaning Nicklaus’s record is not under any real threat.

Who Jack Nicklaus picked for his Mount Rushmore of golfers

Selecting his quartet as a replacement for George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln in South Dakota, he said: “Probably be Bobby Jones, probably be Ben Hogan, probably Tiger Woods. I’d like to join them. Myself, that’s four.”
How many major titles would be on Jack Nicklaus’s Mount Rushmore?
It certainly is an iconic quartet, all of whom had legendary careers, with Woods of course still looking for more success.
Nicklaus and Woods boast 33 major championship titles between them, with Hogan and Jones adding nine and seven respectively for a combined total of 49.

Whether or not the much-loved Woods can add to his tally remains to be seen, with his last major title having come at the Masters in 2019.
Fans will be desperate for one more success, but at the same time will not have any complaints if he fails to make it back to the very top, which does seem the more likely scenario as the years go on.
