Tiger Woods knows all about winning on the PGA Tour, with two of his 82 wins coming at the Players Championship.

Woods loved winning the Players in 2001, with the 15-time major champion triumphing at the event once more in 2013.

Two-time winner Woods conquered the dangerous last three holes at TPC Sawgrass in his second victory, with that stretch including the iconic 17th.

It is, however, now Scottie Scheffler who goes into the Players this year as the main man, having won at TPC Sawgrass in each of the last two seasons.

The 13-time PGA Tour winner headlines the field this week, where he is joined by fellow top three players Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

They will be attempted to master the iconic venue in their practice rounds, but even that may not be helpful when the all-important action arrives.

But like Scheffler, Woods did manage to conquer the course twice, with an interesting question popping up in his winning press conference in 2013.

Asked if he would like to see TPC Sawgrass with no rough at all, he replied: “You know, we had it similar to that in ’94 when I played here in the Amateur.

“There was very, very little. The balls up the right side… the balls up the left side on one were going into palmetto bushes, but those have been taken out.

“And on 10, the palmetto bushes were down the right‑hand side and the balls would land in the fairway and roll through into the palmetto bushes.

“That certainly was a lot more difficult when you have trouble like that, and I think that’s… it would be fun to play it that way. I think that maybe Pete [Dye] intended it to be played that way, hard, fast and really tricky.”

And asked the follow up question if it would be harder that way, Woods responded with ease, saying: “Absolutely.”

What results did injury-hit Tiger Woods achieve in 2024?

Woods was in fine form at TPC Sawgrass that year, where he saw off competition from a host of star names.

He finished on 13-under to come out on top, edging out fellow American duo Jeff Maggert and Kevin Streelman, and Swede David Lingmerth by two shots.

Unfortunately there is no appearance from Woods this time around, with the 49-year-old yet to make his PGA Tour debut this season.

Given his injury issues, he managed just five appearances in all of 2024, but withdrew during the Genesis Invitational in his first start.
