Scottie Scheffler’s actions during Bryson DeChambeau’s spat with Justin Rose proved why his Ryder Cup record is so bad

Scottie Scheffler’s Ryder Cup couldn’t be going any worse as Team USA get set to once again lose the trophy to Team Europe in emphatic fashion.

Scheffler became the first player since 1969 to lose their opening four sessions and going into the Sunday against Rory McIlroy, the pressure is on for him to earn at least something.

Given his record as an individual in the last few seasons, nobody would bet against Scheffler doing the business and at least winning out against McIlroy.

However, it’s not unfair to say that the Ryder Cup just doesn’t seem to be Scheffler’s forte.

In fact, you only have to look back at what happened during the clash on the 15th hole last night to question exactly where Scheffler’s mind is.

One of the big talking points during Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau’s clash with Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood was the 15th hole.

Rose appeared to clash with DeChambeau’s caddie, before things threatened to escalate and get worse as they walked to the 16th tee.

However, what was notable in this exchange was that Scheffler simply didn’t want anything of it.

Even when his caddie Ted Scott got involved, Scheffler simply stood back and was a bystander, seemingly unkeen to get in the mix and ultimately, defend his teammate.

Scheffler watched on as Scott, DeChambeau and DeChambeau’s caddie all got into it, while Tommy Fleetwood was right there having Justin Rose’s back.

In a way, this proved why Scheffler is not the best in this format. Sure, he wants the team to win and we all know he’s a serial winner.

But as people keep suggesting, the best hunters prefer to hunt alone and when it comes to the world number one, it looks very much the case.

Scottie Scheffler’s Ryder Cup record in full

Scheffler has been compared with Tiger Woods when it comes to his Ryder Cup form and it does appear, on paper, that he struggles.

He is zero and four so far in 2025 and coming up against Rory McIlroy, he could easily be zero and five by tonight.

In Rome, he failed to win, although he did pick up two half points.

At Whistling Straits in 2021, Scheffler did perform, winning two of his matches including a 4&3 beating of Jon Rahm.

However, in the main, his record is not looking good for a player of such quality.

If Scheffler can get something from McIlroy, then he will at least have something to build on.

If not, then he could go down as one of the worst world number ones in Ryder Cup history and the stats prove it.
