With the 2024 season done and dusted, thoughts will be turning to arguably the most exciting date in the 2025 calendar, and the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

There are so many fascinating sub-plots heading into the 2025 Ryder Cup. Keegan Bradley was a shock choice for the USA captaincy, while Luke Donald will almost certainly pick LIV Golf players for the first time.

Europe are also looking to become the first away side to win the event since the Miracle at Medinah back in 2012. Meanwhile, the pressure on Team USA has ramped up, with the PGA of America deciding to pay their players for the first time.

But what could the teams look like in New York? Here is a prediction at the two lineups for the sport’s greatest event…

Predicting the 2025 Ryder Cup teams

Scottie Scheffler amongst those who will definitely be there

There are a handful of players who can probably book their tickets to Bethpage right now. Unless they are injured, they will definitely be involved – no matter what their form is like leading into the week.

On the American side, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau should be nailed on. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm will surely be flying the flag for the visitors.

Tyrrell Hatton one of the players who will almost certainly feature

Tyrrell Hatton had an outstanding year on LIV Golf. He is amongst a group along with Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood who would have to be in dreadful form to miss out on making Donald’s side.

Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark and Sahith Theegala are in a similar position when it comes to making Keegan Bradley’s team.

Justin Thomas amongst the slightly riskier shouts

Justin Thomas appears to be returning to some form, but given how underwhelming the majority of his 2024 was, it is important to not get too carried away just yet.

The likes of Shane Lowry, Rasmus Hojgaard and Robert MacIntyre stand a fantastic chance of representing Europe. Lowry’s win on Saturday evening at Whistling Straits was one of the only positives for Europe in 2021.

The wildcards

The USA players want Keegan Bradley to be a playing-captain, and he is playing some very decent golf. He also made an impressive return at the Presidents Cup. Elsewhere, Akshay Bhatia and Nick Dunlap are amongst a host of outstanding young players with a great chance of being involved.

There is a huge question mark over how Jordan Spieth will fare upon his return from injury. But he will surely be involved if gets anywhere near his best again. If not, someone like Brooks Koepka will surely be a contender.

On the European side, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose may bring some much-needed experience. Donald has spoken with Garcia about returning.

Aaron Rai went under the radar with how good he was on the PGA Tour this past year, and he may sneak into the team with little fanfare.
