Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the dominant forces on the PGA Tour right now, and in fact, in world golf.
Scheffler and McIlroy are the first and second ranked players in the world, and they have both enjoyed stellar seasons so far.
The American has two wins to his name, including the PGA Championship, and has finished inside the top-25 in every one of the 11 events he has played this season.
Meanwhile, the Northern Irishman boasts three wins including The Players Championship and The Masters.
A common debate right now is who will win more majors out of Scheffler and McIlroy?

If I had to guess, I would opt for the 28-year-old from Dallas. He is far and away the most consistent golfer on the planet.
And if he continues to perform at the levels he is right now, he’ll surpass 10 majors before the age of 40.
McIlroy’s incredible consistency throughout the years should be commended as well, but there is another player who some golf fans may never have even heard of who is producing the goods in the scoring department this season.
Thorbjorn Olesen is third in scoring average behind only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy
Olesen, 35, is still without a win after playing 88 events on the PGA Tour.
However, he is a proven winner in Europe, with eight DP World Tour wins to his name.
He also beat Jordan Spieth 5&4 in the Ryder Cup singles in Paris in 2018, so he obviously is a very good player on his day.
And this season, Olesen has achieved something quite remarkable.
The man from Denmark hasn’t actually had that much success on the PGA Tour in 2025 – just two top-10 finishes in 10 events played, and he has three missed cuts to his name as well.

However, he is sitting in third place in the scoring average list behind only Scheffler and McIlroy, and ahead of the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa.
Olesen’s worst score this season has been a 74, twice, whilst he’s shot over 72 just four times.
More surprises inside the 2025 top five PGA Tour scoring average list
Scheffler is over half a shot clear of McIlroy per round, and that in itself is quite remarkable.
Aside from those two, there are some really interesting names inside the top five this season.
| Rank | Player name | 2025 scoring average |
| 1 | Scottie Scheffler | 68.694 |
| 2 | Rory McIlroy | 69.219 |
| 3 | Thorbjorn Olesen | 69.897 |
| 4 | Sepp Straka | 69.918 |
| 5 | Bud Cauley | 69.955 |
For comparison, Fleetwood has averaged 70.010 per round this season, whilst Thomas and Morikawa have averaged 70.112 and 70.259 respectively.
Straka is a well-renowned, incredible ball-striker, but nobody would have predicted Olesen and Bud Cauley being inside the top five for scoring average at this point of the season.
It will be really interesting to see whether either of those two players can end the season inside the top five.
If they do, one would suspect that they will have a win to their names as well, by the time the 2025 season has finished.
