Something that Jon Rahm has been pushing for on LIV Golf has now been put squarely in the spotlight after what Brooks Koepka has done.
2025 has been a really strange season for LIV Golf duo Rahm and his fellow multiple major winner Koepka.
The Spaniard actually won the individual championship title on LIV but the fact that he failed to win a single event will have irked him.
Meanwhile, Koepka endured his worst season for more than eight years, with just two top-10 finishes to his name.
Both Rahm and Koepka are two LIV players who the PGA Tour would welcome back with open arms.
Despite the fact that neither of them have won in 12 months, they are both still needle-movers in the professional game, so to speak.
There is currently a stalemate ongoing between LIV and the PGA Tour regarding a potential merger.
And if a deal cannot be struck, LIV Golf may have to make some big changes in order to keep their very biggest stars among their ranks.
LIV Golf must agree to Jon Rahm’s demand after what Brooks Koepka has done
If LIV Golf are to succeed as an entity, big change is needed moving forward.
And Rahm is someone who is said to be driving that change.
Rahm is said to be pushing for a rule change on LIV Golf, with the Spaniard in favour of a change to 72-hole tournaments replacing the current 54-hole format.
The two-time major champion might just have a point – Koepka’s recent performances are evidence of that.
In the 2025 season, the five-time major winner has played in six events with a halfway cut – the four major championships, the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship this week.
He has missed the cut in five of those six events, by quite the margin as well.
Koepka isn’t the only one either. Joaquin Niemann has missed two cuts out of the five 72-hole events he has played, and he only just made the weekend on the number at the BMW PGA Championship on Friday.
It is no coincidence that the tournaments on the LIV Golf league are 54-hole events. Have their players become complacent?
Tournaments are far easier to win over the course of three rounds rather than four. The LIV Golf hierarchy cannot be watching so many of their big stars missing numerous cuts in big events without any kind of concern.
But why should they actually care?

Why is this actually such a big issue for LIV Golf? Well, the answer is actually fairly straightforward.
If LIV are to retain their biggest stars, and indeed attract new ones, they simply have to ensure that their format is conducive with being able to succeed in the major championships.
LIV Golf need more credibility than ever now, with many of their top players, including Koepka approaching the end of their current deals.
Only Bryson DeChambeau has been able to consistently compete at the major championships since he left the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed golf league.
Sure, Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship, but his performances in the majors since then have been concerning to say the least.
He is a fierce competitor and he will quite simply hate the fact that he has missed so many cuts this season away from LIV Golf.
Maybe Rahm has a point and Koepka might just be on the same page after his struggles on LIV, in the major championships and on the DP World Tour this year.
If LIV do switch to 72-hole tournaments not only will they have a greater chance of receiving world ranking points, but their players would also be so much more prepared for the major championships, both mentally and physically.
