Rory McIlroy might not be at the very top of his game right now, but that should be taken as a huge positive.
McIlroy is already a two-time PGA Tour winner in 2025, having triumphed at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Players Championship.
The Northern Irishman now has 28 career wins on the PGA Tour, and importantly is finding form just at the right time.
Only a handful of tournaments remain until the Masters, which returns to the iconic Augusta National early next month.
McIlroy has been backed to contend at the Masters, which is the only major championship he has yet to win.

Rory McIlroy well below PGA Tour average for driving accuracy
And given his impressive start to 2025, that elusive victory may be just around the corner, but there is still room for improvement, particularly in one key area.
McIlroy has his superb driving to thank for many of his wins over the years, but a lack of accuracy has emerged as he prepares to take on Augusta.
Ahead of this week’s Valspar Championship – which he isn’t playing – the four-time major champion ranks second for Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, and 13th for driving distance.

But his 50.89% driving accuracy is remarkably all the way down in 169th in the rankings, and well below the PGA Tour average of 58.81%, with 114 fairways hit out of a possible 224.
Given the huge test that awaits at Augusta National, fine-tuning that area of his game seems a no-brainer over the coming weeks.
| Stat | Value | Rank |
| SG: Tee to Green | 1.684 | 3rd |
| SG: Off the Tee | 0.916 | 2nd |
| Total driving | 182 | 90th |
| Ball speed | 185.25 | 7th |
| Driving distance | 315.0 | 13th |
| Driving accuracy | 50.89% | 169th |
How has Rory McIlroy performed in 2025 as the Masters approaches?
There is no doubting that a fifth major title is a real possibility for McIlroy, but it does seem that the longer his wait goes on, the more likely it is becoming.
His most recent success came at the PGA Championship all the way back in 2014, a tournament he also won in 2012.

Wins at the 2011 US Open and 2014 Open Championship are also on his stunning honours list, but the Masters likely remains top of his list of priorities.
Fortunately he is in a fantastic position to finally get over the line next month, with his best Masters finish to date coming via a second place spot in 2022.
