Many scratch handicap male golfers believe they have a genuine chance of beating LPGA Tour players from the back tees.

Most of them will not say it out loud but, trust me, they believe it.

The standard of golf on the LPGA Tour has improved tenfold over the past decade or so.

Thanks to players like Nelly Korda, Jheeno Thitikul and Charlie Hull, women’s golf is more popular than ever now.

Would you like to see a ‘Women’s Masters’ at Augusta National?

If you’re a scratch golfer and you believe you could beat an LPGA Tour pro, it’s worth remembering that Nelly Korda beat Grant Horvat, who plays off +4, by five strokes recently.

Despite the rise in quality of the women’s game, the question still gets asked regularly: Would a scratch handicap male golfer beat an LPGA Tour player from the back tees?

How a male scratch golfer got on against two LPGA Tour pros

Ashley Mullin, from The Golf Supply, took on Celine Boutier and Megan Khang in a match at Scottsdale National in Arizona.

The conditions were perfect as Mullin, Boutier and Khang set off for a late afternoon round of golf in the desert.

Boutier is a six-time LPGA Tour winner and she has one major championship to her name – The Evian in 2023.

Meanwhile, Khang has secured one LPGA Tour win throughout her career to date, and has recorded 11 top-10 finishes in the majors.

Both players have made four appearances at the Solheim Cup for their respective teams.

It goes without saying that they are both exceptionally gifted golfers.

The two women played on alternate holes against Mullin – a scratch handicap golfer.

Mullin hits the ball a country mile and he’s obviously a very good golfer.

However, he was no match for Boutier and Khang.

The American played the odd numbered holes while the Frenchwoman took the evens.

And the LPGA Tour players ran out as winners.

They finished three up on Mullin with three holes to play before darkness halted proceedings.

In fairness to the Englishman, he actually played some really solid golf but on the day, he couldn’t compete with the two LPGA Tour stars.

How the LPGA Tour players scored vs scratch golfer Mullin

Boutier and Khang were four-under par for 15 holes while Mullin made 13 pars, one birdie and failed to score on one hole after picking up his ball.

There was some really high quality golf played, but the LPGA Tour duo were simply too good for Mullin in the end.

Let that be a lesson to all of you scratch handicap male golfers out there.

LPGA Tour players are on another level entirely, even off the back tees!

While getting down to scratch is a huge achievement and only 1.8 per cent of golfers on the planet have managed it, you’re still a long way from being able to compete with LPGA Tour players.

Boutier and Khang proved that at Scottsdale National against Mullin.
