Winning on the PGA Tour is never easy, as those taking on this week’s tournament are well aware.
The 2025 campaign concludes this week with The RSM Classic, with the focus then turning to the 2026 PGA Tour season.
PGA Tour cards are at stake at The RSM Classic, which is currently taking place at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia.
A title is, of course, also on offer, with the current players certainly glad that this season’s leader Scottie Scheffler isn’t in the field.
World number one Scheffler has six PGA Tour wins to his name this season, with Rory McIlroy and Ben Griffin both on three.

When Paul Runyan won nine times in one PGA Tour season
But while hugely impressive, Scheffler’s tally still falls well short of the most wins by a player in a single season.
That record belongs to Byron Nelson, who clinched a simply stunning 18 victories in the 1945 PGA Tour season.
Do you think the PGA Tour reducing the amount of cards for 2026 to 100 is a good thing?
But it was Paul Runyan who really set the standard once upon a time, when he became the first player to claim nine wins in a single season.
He secured the superb record in 1933, a year before the American earned his first major championship success.
That arrived at the 1934 PGA Championship, with iconic figure Runyan winning the same tournament four years later.
But he made history with his efforts in 1933, with no other player having won as many times at that stage on the PGA Tour.

Tiger Woods and Sam Snead
While Runyan was the first player to win nine times in a single PGA Tour season, he certainly isn’t the only one to achieve the feat.
The likes of Tiger Woods and Sam Snead, who are joint top of the all-time wins list with 82, also hit that number.

Snead went a step further with his 11 victories in 1950, although Woods’ 2000 season has gone down in history as one of the greatest ever.
And they are the leaders when it comes to the most wins at a single tournament, standing out from the crowd once again.
| Wins | Player | Tournament | Years |
| 8 | Tiger Woods | WGC-Bridgestone Invitational | 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013 |
| 8 | Tiger Woods | Arnold Palmer Invitational | 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 |
| 8 | Sam Snead | Wyndham Championship | 1938, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1955, 1956, 1960, 1965 |
Runyan meanwhile claimed a superb 28 wins throughout his career, with 273 cuts made from his 295 PGA Tour starts.
He also finished as a runner-up on 19 occasions, with 22 third-place finishes and 101 top-five finishes recorded too.
