Collin Morikawa has experienced really big problems in the caddie department this season.

Morikawa and his former caddie – J.J. Jakovac – parted ways at the start of May, after a seven-year partnership.

That wasn’t all for Morikawa though. He appointed Max Homa’s former caddie – Joe Greiner – a couple of weeks after his split with Jakovac.

However, that partnership ended prematurely, with Morikawa deciding to move on from Greiner just before the Rocket Classic two weeks ago.

It does seem like the 28-year-old is looking too much at external solutions for his problems, when his issues this season are mostly down to him.

Morikawa will have Billy Forster on the bag for the Scottish Open and The Open Championship over the next two weeks.

Foster is an absolute legend in the caddying world, and he will undoubtedly be a positive influence on the two-time major champion.

However, there may be trouble ahead, if the partnership does indeed blossom over the course of the next two weeks.

Foster has looped for some of the best players in the history of the game, including Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and even Tiger Woods on occasion.

So it’s clear to see that Morikawa has a man with a wealth of experience on the bag for two hugely important tournaments.

However, should these next couple of weeks go well for Morikawa, he may well face a very big problem.

If the American decides to hire Foster on a permanent basis, a tough conversation will need to be had ahead of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in September.

That’s because Foster once said he would never caddie for an American golfer at the Ryder Cup.

The man from Yorkshire in England said: “No, not a chance. I don’t have to think about that. There’s not a chance on earth, would I ever caddie for America against Europe in the Ryder Cup. I’ve actually caddied for Tiger in the Presidents Cup, but that’s different. But the European Tour, it’s been my whole life,” he said.

“I promise you if I’d got Tiger’s job, the first thing I’d have said to him, I’d said, ‘right, I’d love to caddie for you, Tiger, but let’s get something straight, when it comes to the Ryder Cup, you’ll have to get somebody else, because I’ll be cheering against you’. I couldn’t do it.”

If Morikawa does form a permanent partnership with Foster, he will clearly have to employ another caddie for the Ryder Cup.

Collin Morikawa’s 2025 form

Morikawa hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season.

In fact, since his runner-up finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, his golf has been distinctly average.

Here are his results from the 2025 season so far:

The man from California will be desperate to get a win under his belt as soon as possible.

However, if Morikawa does secure a victory over the course of the next two weeks, it could lead to a problem down the line regarding Foster’s reluctance to caddie for an American at the Ryder Cup.
