Ben Griffin continued his superb season at the Procore Championship, where he narrowly missed out on the title at the hands of Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler claimed a one-stroke win over Griffin at Silverado Resort, earning his 19th victory on the PGA Tour.

Griffin fell short of his third career success, having won at the Charles Schwab Challenge and Zurich Classic of New Orleans earlier this season.

And he’s now finished as runner-up twice in 2025, with his Ryder Cup teammate Scheffler his nemesis on both occasions.

The first arrived at the Memorial Tournament, where the world number one edged out Griffin by four shots.

Ben Griffin shows his class after near miss at the Procore Championship

Their Procore Championship battle was much closer, and one which Griffin will have mixed feelings about given how close he came to success.

He led by two shots going into the final round, and even missed a short putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.

Having worked as a loan mortgage officer just a handful of years ago, the near miss is arguably his most difficult career moment so far.

But rather than wallow in self-pity, Griffin showed his class and the strength of his character by speaking to the media immediately after his final round.

Ben Griffin takes opposite approach to Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa

Griffin’s actions come in stark contrast to those of many who have come before him in recent times after suffering similar fates.

Rory McIlroy made a rapid exit following his 2024 US Open collapse, while Collin Morikawa snubbed the media after a near miss at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

There have been a handful of other instances from McIlroy alone and others, but Griffin has not joined that unwanted list.

It would have been easy for the Ryder Cup debutant to sneak out after such disappointment, but admirably he didn’t let himself, his fans, the media or the PGA Tour down.

Keegan Bradley has been told to play Griffin early at the Ryder Cup later this month, with the latter having been one of the former’s six captain’s picks for Bethpage Black.

And that pick proves just how impressive the player has been on the PGA Tour this season, with his momentum now continuing at the perfect time.

But a strong character will also be needed to thrive in New York, and it seems that Griffin should have no issues in that regard.

He will, however, need to put that agonising putt in Napa to one side as quickly as possible, and instead remember his week and season in general.
