Ben Griffin got the full Scottie Scheffler experience in the final round of the Procore Championship and like so many others, he fell to the world number one.

Griffin played well enough for his final round in Napa but in the end, Scheffler poured in the putts to shoot a final round 67 and leapfrog his Ryder Cup teammate for the win.

For Griffin, it was another harsh learning curve on what has otherwise been a superb season in the main.

Griffin has two wins this season and a few more near-misses, while his selection for the Ryder Cup is the icing on the cake.

However, when speaking to the press afterwards, Griffin was quizzed on Scheffler and he admitted what it was like seeing the world’s best climb the leaderboard.

Ben Griffin says how he felt seeing Scottie Scheffler overtake him at the Procore Championship

So many players have had to witness and endure the brilliance of Scottie Scheffler this season.

When it comes to pressure and dealing with situations, nobody in the game does it better.

And according to Griffin, you simply have to expect Scheffler to make a run.

“Well, you know, you expect it,” Griffin said.

“I knew I needed to shoot a lower round. Just the fact that I had a chance shooting 2 under, 3 under, I honestly thought I needed to go a little bit lower today. He’s a hell of a player, he’s got the resume that’s better than pretty much everyone here.”

Still, while Griffin respects Scheffler’s game, the 29-year-old seemed unwilling to entertain the idea that Scheffler might well be at a stage where he’s unbeatable.

“He’s just like every other player, everyone can beat everyone, you’ve just got to play better.”

Asked if anything specifically went wrong in his own game, Griffin suggested his putting let him down.

“No, it felt great off the start, even felt great kind of middle of the round. Just the cards just weren’t aligned,” Griffin continued.

“I hit some putts that I thought I hit decent putts that didn’t fall. I still made some five-, six-footers. I think I just left myself way too many of them. You need to either convert those or make a few more from mid range. It’s all good, I’ll get to work, I’ll look at things and I’ll practice hard this week and make sure I’m ready for the Ryder Cup.”

Ben Griffin can be a wildcard for Team USA at Bethpage

Ben Griffin wanted to win the Procore Championship and in the end he failed. That will sting, but once again, he’s shown how good he is.

With the Ryder Cup now just two weeks away, Griffin has once again showed he is ready to step up.

Yes, Scheffler held his nerve the better of the two and showed why he’s the world’s best but for Griffin, there’s lots of positives as well.

With Bethpage Black set to be a red-hot atmosphere, we could well see Griffin excel and he might well end up being the main man despite only being a late pick for Keegan Bradley.
