Tiger Woods has broken a plethora of records during his esteemed professional career.

Woods is tied for the most victories ever on the PGA Tour with 82. He has made the most consecutive cuts with 142, and he has the lowest career scoring average ever.

The greatest golfer of all time also has a stellar record in Australia. Woods played five competitive events there, winning the 2009 JBWere Masters, and coming third in the Australian Open in his most recent individual tournament in the country.

And in 2019, Woods did a Presidents Cup first, which will not be copied for at least another three years.

Tiger Woods achieved a Presidents Cup first in Melbourne

Woods became the second-ever playing captain in Presidents Cup history in 2019, following in the footsteps of Hale Irwin in 1994. He then became the most successful.

The 15-time major winner led Team USA to a dramatic comeback victory against the International side, and went undefeated as a player to secure the victory. Woods went 3-0-0 to become the first-ever undefeated playing captain in the Presidents Cup.

The Americans needed every point from Woods, who paired with Justin Thomas twice on Thursday and Friday, before sitting out on Saturday. Team USA trailed by 10-8 going into singles on Sunday, before Woods sparked the comeback by beating Abraham Ancer 3 & 2.

Team USA won six of the singles matches and rallied to win 16–14. Woods was the only player on either team to be undefeated through the tournament.

Much was made of Keegan Bradley’s decision not to be playing captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup. Rory McIlroy said being a playing captain was impossible in the tournament. But if anything, Woods didn’t play himself enough as captain in the 2019 Presidents Cup.

Tiger Woods Presidents Cup record raises Ryder Cup question

Woods has an abysmal Ryder Cup record. He’s 13-21-3 as a player, and the USA won just one of eight events with him on the team. That’s caused many to say that Woods simply wasn’t adept at team events.

But his Presidents Cup record tells another story. He has won the most matches in the event’s history, with a 27-15-1 over nine appearances.

While the lights don’t shine as brightly on the Presidents Cup stage as they do on the Ryder Cup, Woods’ record proves his ability to play in team events.

That means any claims that players couldn’t play Woods’ ball, or he wasn’t a team player, are unfounded. That only adds to the mystery of his performances at the Ryder Cup.
