Jordan Spieth was genuinely stunned by something Tommy Fleetwood did seven years ago.
Spieth has earned plenty of success since he turned pro with 13 PGA Tour wins to his name, including three major championships.
Meanwhile, Fleetwood didn’t earn his first win on the PGA Tour until his 164th start just last week.
Fleetwood put on a ball-striking clinic at the Tour Championship, and now he is expected to go on and win many more.
While Spieth has won many more tournaments than Fleetwood, as things stand, the Englishman is a far better player than the American at this stage of his career.

Interestingly, Gary Player recently said Spieth is the best golfer in the world but suggested that he has been coached incorrectly.
That was a hugely bold claim, with Scottie Scheffler having dominated professional golf over the past few years.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Spieth is not only nowhere near Scheffler’s level, but he’s not close to matching Fleetwood either.
Jordan Spieth said Tommy Fleetwood did something ‘absurd’ back in 2018
Fleetwood wasn’t in contention at all to win the US Open at Shinnecock Hills after three rounds seven years ago.
However, that all changed after his sensational play during the final round up in New York State.
The Englishman shot a scintillating 63, one that consisted of just one bogey and eight birdies, including four in a row on the back nine.
Fleetwood also missed a six-foot putt for birdie on his final hole of the day – one that meant he missed out on a playoff with Brooks Koepka by just a single stroke.
Spieth spoke to reporters not long after the final round of the US Open and absolutely raved about Fleetwood as both a person and a golfer, as quoted by ESPN:
“I don’t have much of a gauge on the difficulty last week,“ Spieth said. “I thought the course was very playable for the first two days. I just shot myself in the foot based on my play. I have no other blame.
“I did see some clips of Saturday and Sunday — so I have just that to comment — but the 63 on Sunday… I know he [Fleetwood] had a few putts for 62 which I know he wishes he could get back.
“But the 63, that’s absurd, a fantastic round, and I don’t think anybody was surprised to see that it was Tommy Fleetwood who did it.

“He certainly has the ability and the game to do it. I could certainly see him as one of the favourites [at the Open].
“He’s someone who will have a lot of momentum. With the home crowd, guys who will want to see a Brit win the Open Championship. It’s been such a special moment in the past, he’s one of the top guys to beat.
“He’s absolutely one of the nicest people out here, everyone respects him just as everyone respects his game.“
Tommy Fleetwood vs Jordan Spieth: Career PGA Tour records compared
Fleetwood is undoubtedly one of the very best players in the world right now, while Spieth has been struggling with his game for three years now.
However, the American’s career record is still far superior to the Englishman’s.
| Achievements | Spieth | Fleetwood |
| Events played | 300 | 164 |
| Major wins | 3 | 0 |
| Wins | 13 | 1 |
| Top-5s | 56 | 31 |
| Top-10s | 93 | 45 |
| Missed cuts | 57 | 24 |
| Money earned | $65,901,630 | $43,430,669 |
It is worth noting that Fleetwood has seven DP World Tour wins to his name.
However, the PGA Tour is the true test for the very best players in the world.
And Fleetwood will be looking to match Spieth’s PGA Tour record, or even overtake him, over the next five or six years.
