It did not take long for thoughts to turn to the Ryder Cup after Cameron Young secured his first win on the PGA Tour by clinching the Wyndham Championship title at Sedgefield.
Cameron Young has fully recovered from such a disappointing start to the year on the PGA Tour. The 28-year-old is now inside the top 20 in the FedEx Cup standings after winning the Wyndham Championship this past week.
Young’s maiden win on tour has been a long time coming. He has top 10 finishes at all of the majors despite only being a regular in the four biggest events of the year since 2022.
The 2022 season also saw Young make his debut in a team event for USA, as he was handed a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow.
How Cameron Young managed to impress Jordan Spieth before the Presidents Cup in 2022
Young had a mixed week as USA managed to see off such a tenacious International team. He won 1.5 points from four matches in Charlotte. It is fair to say that his most recent visit to North Carolina was a little more successful.
And it seems that Young managed to make quite an impression on his teammates ahead of the Presidents Cup three years ago.

Speaking to the media that week, Jordan Spieth picked Young out when asked to put together the ultimate player from his teammates.
“Well, I haven’t played with Cameron Young, but I watched him hit three drives this morning, and I don’t know if anybody could hit a drive like that, that long and straight. I’d say he hits a tee ball. I’d probably pick J.T. for approaches. You could go to anybody, Collin for approaches,” he said.
“It’s hard because it’s like everyone’s got a great short game. Xander is probably the most consistent, top ten putter in the world on our team.”
What Scottie Scheffler said about Cameron Young at Quail Hollow
Spieth was not the only player who highlighted the rookie that week at Quail Hollow.
Scottie Scheffler provided a similar answer when asked the same question.
“Okay, wow, you’re hitting me with a hard one here. I’d probably let Jordan putt. Might let him chip, too. He’s pretty good at that kind of stuff,” he said.
“Let’s see, who else is on the team? This is hard off the spot. Who hits it the furthest? Finau probably? Cam Young? Yeah, I’d say Cam Young hitting the tee balls, and then maybe Collin with the irons.”
The key question Keegan Bradley will be considering as he weighs up whether Young will make his team for Bethpage is who he can pair him with.
Young played two matches alongside Collin Morikawa in 2022, as well as one with Kevin Kisner. Morikawa is someone who has had a wide range of partners over the years.
So perhaps that partnership may be revived should Bradley opt to pick both men for September.
