Bryson DeChambeau and John Daly don’t cross paths too often, but there’s always excitement when they do.
Daly has been impressed by DeChambeau, who is unquestionably one of the most high-profile players on LIV Golf and indeed across the entire sport.
Meanwhile, Daly was a PGA Tour star, with the popular figure having since moved on to the PGA Tour Champions.
The duo linked up on DeChambeau’s YouTube channel once upon a time, while a more tenuous link arrives in the fact that they both have two major championship wins.

What Bryson DeChambeau said about John Daly at The Open Championship in 2022
Those worlds combined at The Open Championship in 2022, when they were paired together for rounds one and two at St Andrews.
Unsurprisingly, they were tasked with discussing one another after Thursday’s action, with DeChambeau saying of his round with Daly: “It was something to see. He’s such a nice guy.
“First off, he’s such a great guy, at least to me, we had a great time out there. It was a lot of fun. He’s obviously wobbling a little bit around the golf course, but he’s getting through it.
“And, man, for him to shoot the score he shot today was pretty impressive. I was on 13 or 14, going, what is he?
“I was like where is he, 1 over; still right there. So pretty impressive to see and the crowds obviously love him. It’s great to feed off that.”

And when asked if he told Daly anything about the speed when they both had long putts on the 13th at the Old Course, he said: “Oh, no, I was surprised.
“I was like, oh, my gosh, it’s such a long putt, difficult to get close. But he hit it close. It was fun to watch that. He’s got some great touch around the greens, for sure.”
How John Daly felt seeing Bryson DeChambeau play up close at St Andrews
Daly claimed he would have joined LIV Golf had he had the opportunity, one which DeChambeau took in 2022.
At St Andrews that summer, the former certainly enjoyed his time with the latter, having never played with DeChambeau in a competitive round at that stage.
He said of witnessing his fellow American up close: “It was fun just to see the power he has. He’s hitting his 4-iron 280, 290 off the tee. On 15 he hit 7-iron off the tee, which is amazing. It’s fun to watch. It really is. It’s a blast to watch.”
When asked if he knew DeChambeau before their round, Daly revealed: “Yeah, I’ve spoken to him. We’ve spoken a lot at majors.
“I play the PGA and this one. I’ve seen him at a few PGA Tour events over the years. Great kid. I love watching him play. It’s really cool.”

And when asked if he gave his playing partner any advice on the iconic Old Course, he replied: “No, he knew the course. He knew what he was doing.
“I’m thinking on 2 and 3 and a few of the holes on the front, I think if he hits driver, he could drive 2, he could almost drive 3. He played real conservative. That’s his game plan.
“If I had that power, I’d be trying to drive some of those par-4s. As good as he hits it, as far and as straight as he hits it, that’s what I would do.
“Jack [Nicklaus] always said avoid the least amount of bunkers you can off the tee, but 2 and 3, none of those bunkers come in play for him. But he’s got his game plan. If I had that power, I’d be hitting driver on every hole, man. I’d be loading up, trying to drive them all.”
While they had a great time playing with each other early on, it was DeChambeau who ended the week in the better position.
He finished T8 at The Open that year on 12-under, eight shots behind Claret Jug winner Cameron Smith, a fellow LIV Golf member.
Meanwhile, Daly missed the even-par cut in Scotland, finishing on three-over after opening rounds of 73 and 74.
