Tiger Woods is, in many people’s eyes, the best golfer to have ever graced the game.

Woods has won a record-equalling 82 PGA Tour tournaments, including 15 major championships.

Only Jack Nicklaus has more majors to his name than Woods, and had it not been for so many back surgeries, the 49-year-old may well have surpassed the Golden Bear’s tally.

Woods was the best driver of the ball and wedge player in the history of the game, according to those in the know.

He had the whole package, and when he took the lead, he hardly ever relinquished his advantage. In fact, he won 49 of the 53 tournaments in which he led after 54 holes.

Woods capped off his incredible career with his Masters win in 2019, just two years after he underwent spinal fusion surgery.

He was superhuman at times, but which golfers impressed Woods the most throughout his career?

During Woods’ heyday, there weren’t many players who could hang with him, although two golfers gave him a run for his money on a fair few occasions.

Do you think Tiger Woods can win another PGA Tour event?

Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh were both relentless winners in their own right during the 1990s onwards.

Had it not been for Woods, both players would have won many, many more golf tournaments.

During a question and answer session for Golf TV, Woods responded when asked to name the best golfers he has ever played alongside, with Mickelson and Singh getting his vote.

He said: “I would have to say it’s either Phil [Mickelson] or Vijay [Singh].

“Those two have won a lot of tournaments and they were so hard to beat in different ways.

“Phil didn’t hit the ball as well as Vijay but his short game was off the charts.

“Vijay hit it better, put a lot of pressure on you, but his short game – his chipping was awesome but he didn’t putt as well as Phil did.

“Those guys kept putting themselves there and I loved it. I loved the challenge of it. Phil and I and Vijay went at it for the better part of 15 years and it’s been a lot of fun.”

It was actually claimed recently that Tiger Woods never respected Phil Mickelson due to the fact that lefty never fully maximized his potential.

However, Mickelson did still win 45 PGA Tour tournaments, including six majors, so it’s not like he hasn’t been a regular winner throughout his years in the game, is it?
