Jordan Spieth, and indeed every single PGA Tour player, owes so much to Tiger Woods.

Woods is considered by many to be the greatest golfer to have ever graced the game, and back in 2017 it seemed like Spieth could come close to matching his records.

However, the 32-year-old from Dallas has not won a major since his Open triumph eight years ago, and he is without a PGA Tour victory since April 2022.

Despite his fall from grace, Spieth received an invite from Woods into the Hero World Challenge, and that proves just how highly the 49-year-old rates him.

In fact, Spieth is a real needle-mover on the PGA Tour, and he attracts eyeballs to the sport regardless of whether he’s actually playing well or not.

Spieth first played with Woods just before the Presidents Cup way back in 2013, and he admitted after that round that he learned so much from the great man.

Five years after that round, Spieth also shared something that really surprised him about Woods having watched the furore that surrounds him every single week in very close quarters.

The 15-time major champion has had to put up with more scrutiny throughout his career than any other player in the history of the game.

Spieth and all of the top players on the PGA Tour right now have benefited hugely from the impact that Woods has had on the game.

Do you think Jordan Spieth will be deserving of invites into the signature events in 2026?

When Woods burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s he was like a breath of fresh air for a game that had become stale and had little appeal to the younger generation of sports fans.

Back in 2018, Spieth praised Woods for everything he has done for the game of golf in general, as quoted by The Express.

He said: The kind of extra to that is that it’s good for the rest of us. He, like Arnie and Jack, are in that elite company that have shifted the game and made it popular and made the way of life significantly different for professional golfers.

We certainly owe a lot to him. And that doesn’t mean that anybody wants to take it easy on him if they’re coming down the stretch with him.

So it just – it adds an element to it, sure. We’ve seen it – I’ve seen it since I was out on Tour. I’ve seen it since I was watching him when I was 11, 12 years old. So it doesn’t surprise me in here that that would change.

He’s also being dissected to the nth degree on everything he’s doing and every practice swing on a Monday. I think that’s pretty bizarre. But it is what it is, and he handles it the way he wants to handle it, and he goes about his business not really caring about what people think and does it because he loves to do it.

The reason why Tiger Woods really respects Jordan Spieth

As mentioned earlier, Woods is a huge admirer of Spieth.

And back in 2022, he opened up on the reason why he respects the man from Dallas, Texas, so much.

Woods said: “We always called him the golden child just because of the start to his career.

But if you play this game long enough you are going to go through slumps and times when things are tough.

“He has fought back and ground his way back into this position and he has earned it. It is one of the things we all respect about him.”

Spieth now needs to show that resilience once again, having not won on the PGA Tour for more than three years now.

He clearly has the talent, but does he have the mental strength to rediscover his very best form? Only time will tell in that regard.
