John Daly has experienced a real rollercoaster of a golfing career over the past 34 years.
Daly won the first of his two majors at the PGA Championship in 1991 before he shocked the golfing world again four years later at St. Andrews when he won the Open Championship in 1995.
He took the PGA Tour circuit by storm and he instantly endeared himself to the fans with his affable nature and explosive power off the tee.
Daly was the longest hitter on Tour, by quite some distance as well.
However, the now 59-year-old has endured plenty of pain alongside his success, both on and off the golf course.
The American was disqualified from numerous events throughout his professional career as he battled with inner demons throughout his life – something he admitted in his autobiography: My Life In And Out Of The Rough.
Daly reached another low on the PGA Tour Champions last month when he carded a round of 88 after making a 19 on the par-five 12th hole during the Sanford International.
Now let’s cast our minds back to 2011 when he suffered yet another self-inflicted humiliation on the golf course.
Why John Daly was banned from playing in the Australian Open for life
Daly has a history of self-destructing on the golf course.
His 18 on the par-five sixth hole at Bay Hill in 1998 has been well-documented while his meltdown during the 1999 US Open at Pinehurst lives long in the memory of avid golf fans.

On the par-four eighth hole, Daly under-hit his putt from off the green.
As his ball began to roll back towards him, he swiped at it with his putter while it was still in motion.
He was handed a two stroke penalty and ended up carding an 11 on the hole.
However, we saw one of Daly’s lowest points 14 years ago in Australia.
Daly withdrew from the Australian Open back in 2011 at The Lakes in Sydney after finding the water seven times on the 10th hole during his first round.
But it was the manner of his withdrawal that got him in real trouble.
Daly told his playing partners – Craig Parry and Hunter Mahan – “I’m off,” as he stormed off the golf course without informing the event organizers of his withdrawal.
John Daly banned for life from the Australian Open
Tournament director Trevor Herden spoke to reporters after he was informed of Daly’s withdrawal at The Lakes.
He said: “I would say this is the last time we see John Daly at this tournament.
“I’m extremely bitter and disappointed. It’s becoming a bit of a habit.“
Herden responded to Daly’s claim that he ran out of golf balls during his round by saying: “If you run out of golf balls, and you are acting in a professional manner, you will call a rules official and we will get the type of ball he is playing with and replenish his stock. We can do that. For him to treat it as ‘that’s it’ and ‘see you later’, that’s not good enough.“
One of his playing partners on the day, Hunter Mahan, said: “Once I saw two go in, I think the effort went down pretty fast. I thought that’s what we were going to see and we did. It’s not the most respectful thing for a guy who would die to play in this.“
Meanwhile, the CEO of the PGA of Australia, Brian Thorburn, said: “John is not welcome at Coolum.“
Daly has not played in the Australian Open ever since then and, unfortunately for him, he has been banned from professional tournaments more times than he would care to remember throughout his career.
