Playing in the Presidents Cup around the turn of the millennium must have been particularly satisfying for some of the best American players as they did not have to worry about trying to get the better of Tiger Woods.

Jim Furyk was one of those players who would have almost certainly won even more had he not played in the same era as Tiger Woods.

Woods won 82 times on the PGA Tour, while only Jack Nicklaus can better his tally of 15 majors.

Do you think Tiger Woods can win another PGA Tour event?

Along the way, the 49-year-old has produced some of the most iconic shots the game has seen.

Some will point to his chip from the back of the 16th green at Augusta National. Others will look at the approach into the 72nd hole at the Canadian Open in 2000.

But it is a shot from the 2005 Presidents Cup which stands out to Furyk.

During an interview with 5 Clubs, Furyk was asked about the greatest shot he had seen Woods hit in person.

“Presidents Cup, RTJ, we’re playing a par three down to the water, it’s either eight or nine, tough match,” he said.

“I’m hitting first, I hit five iron kind of in the middle of the green. It landed in the middle of the green and ran all the way through. This pin’s in a little back corner in the left. No chance you can get it close. And he hits a six or a seven iron straight up in the air.

“It lands three feet from the hole and stops on a dime, and my first look was to look at the two guys we were playing, because I wanted to see their reaction. I knew no other person on the planet could hit that shot, and it was my partner, and I had the biggest grin on my face, like ‘what are you going to do now?’”

How Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods performed together at the 2005 Presidents Cup

Woods had a much better record in the Presidents Cup than the Ryder Cup. However, he ended the 2005 event with 2.5 points from his five matches.

Furyk, meanwhile, won four points from his five games in Virginia. Only Chris DiMarco managed to contribute more as Team USA won 18.5-15.5.

Woods and Furyk went unbeaten together, winning two and halving one of their three matches. Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby were the only International pairing to deny them victory.

And they went one better two years later at Royal Montreal, with Singh and Appleby winning 5&4 on Friday.

Once again, however, Team USA would have the last laugh that week.
