Jack Nicklaus once gave his opinion on Justin Rose’s swing and shared what he’s ‘always thought’ about his golf

If any golfer ever receives praise from Jack Nicklaus, you know they are a player of the very highest calibre.

Nicklaus doesn’t offer praise to players for the sake of it, so when he raved about Justin Rose back in 2010, the Englishman would have been given a huge confidence boost.

Rose’s win at the St. Jude Championship on Sunday was evidence that he’s seemingly improving with age.

The 45-year-old Englishman is the consummate pro and he always works incredibly hard on his game.

Rose’s play-off victory over J.J. Spaun at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis was a great reward for the hours of hard work he puts into his game.

After a tough start to life on tour when Rose missed 21 cuts in a row, he has firmly established himself as one of the best players in the professional game over the past 15 years or so.

And something Nicklaus said about him back in 2010 proved that he was a player destined for the very highest level of the game.

It took Rose a long time before he broke his duck and won on the PGA Tour.

The Englishman picked a fabulous course to finally get over the line, as he won at Muirfield Village, after shooting 18-under par for the week and getting the better of Rickie Fowler by three strokes.

Back in 2010 when Rose won the Memorial Tournament at Jack’s Place, Nicklaus praised the Englishman after his victory at Muirfield Village.

He said: “I’ve always thought Justin to be a really good player. You can’t get any better than his swing right now.“

That’s quite the praise from the best golfer to have ever swung a club.

Since his first PGA Tour win in 2010, Rose has fulfilled his potential, going on to win 12 titles in total, including a major championship in 2013 at the US Open.

It’s worth noting that he has 11 DP World Tour wins to his name as well, and he has appeared in six Ryder Cups, winning 14 matches throughout the years.

Luke Donald and Tommy Fleetwood praise for Justin Rose

Rose is universally loved in the world of professional golf.

He’s a really kind-hearted person, but when he gets on the golf course, he is one of the fiercest competitors in the game.

Rose was superb from the 14th hole onwards during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

And his performance in the play-off against J.J. Spaun was exceptional.

Luke Donald reacted to Rose’s Instagram post after his win in Memphis.

The European Ryder Cup captain wrote: “That was a clinic down the stretch JR. So So impressive.“

While Rose’s final round playing partner Tommy Fleetwood offered high words of praise for him as well.

He said: “The support I’ve received is invaluable and hugely appreciated, we’ll get there together! Justin Rose, your win is inspiring, congratulations my friend! A new week. See you at work!”

The challenge now for Rose will be to kick on and win even more PGA Tour events. Even if he manages no more wins though, he will still end up with a Hall of Fame career.

It could be argued that what Nicklaus said about Rose back in 2010 would have given him the confidence and impetus he needed to go on and achieve what he has.
