Gary Player never holds back when it comes to offering his opinion on everything to do with our wonderful game.
Player has a reputation of being one of the most uncompromising golf commentators and analysts in the game today.
He was ferociously outspoken during his playing days as well, so perhaps that shouldn’t be a surprise.

The year is 2030, where will Bryson DeChambeau be?
LIV Golf, the PGA Tour or on YouTube permanently…
Player regularly offers his opinions on current news topics in the game of golf as well as his takes on the modern-day stars.
And back in 2017, Gary Player made it very clear what he thought about one major championship venue.
Gary Player named major venue as the ‘worst golf course’ ever
Jordan Spieth won the US Open at Chambers Bay in 2015, after finishing one shot clear of Dustin Johnson after the now LIV Golf star three-putted the final hole.
However, a couple of years after that event, Player really went to town with his criticism of Chambers Bay.
“The worst golf course I might’ve ever seen in the 63 years as a professional golfer,“ Player said.
“The USGA, who I admire and have chosen great golf courses in this great United States of America — they’re preaching speed of play. Enjoyment. User-friendly.

“This golf course here, if you’re a 10-handicap, you couldn’t break 100 if you had the best day of your life. They’ve got pros putting from 20 feet and hitting the ball 20 foot to the right, a man misses the green by a yard and he’s 50 yards down in the valley.
“I mean I don’t understand it.”
Player made a great point there.
Firstly, Chambers Bay really was a disastrous US Open from start to finish. Decent golf shots were unfairly punished while the putting surfaces were some of the worst you will ever see.
Robert Trent Jones Jr’s response to Gary Player’s comments
The Chambers Bay course designer – Robert Trent Jones Jr – responded to Player’s comments.
Why should Brooks Koepka be allowed back on the PGA Tour?
He made his bed, now he should have to lie in it…right?
And he clearly wasn’t happy with the nine-time major champion’s remarks.
“Gary Player wasn’t playing in the tournament,” Jones said.
“I think Gary Player, as we all know him, is kind of a showboater. For whatever reason he chose to make those comments.“
Despite Robert Trent Jones Jr’s response to Player, it’s fair to say that the criticisms of Chambers Bay at the time were more than just.
It’s no coincidence that the USGA are still yet to hold another US Open there a decade later.
