Tommy Fleetwood finally got the monkey off his back in August 2025 by winning on the PGA Tour for the first time at the Tour Championship.
The next step for Fleetwood will be to win a major championship and he should have a great chance of doing just that at The Masters next month.
Fleetwood is well known as one of the best drivers in the game, and his iron play is right up there with the very best as well.

Both of those qualities will obviously serve him very well at Augusta National.
Fleetwood loves playing in The Masters and is a huge fan of the golf course, so there’s no reason why he shouldn’t have a chance to win the tournament on Sunday next week.
Much will depend on how well he putts on Augusta’s severely undulating and extremely challenging greens.
He has improved exponentially on the greens over the past 12 months, so he should be fairly positive about his putting ahead of the year’s first major.
However, the one-time PGA Tour winner does have one big advantage heading into The Masters next week that is completely separate from his actual game.

Fleetwood’s game has been nowhere near as sharp as he would have liked it to be so far in 2026.
He’s ranked 50th in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour this season, while he is outside the top 120 in strokes gained putting.
Those two stats prove he hasn’t been playing consistently as well this year as he did during the 2025 season.
However, there is some good news for Tommy Fleetwood fans.
Firstly, it’s worth highlighting that Fleetwood does have three top-10 finishes to his name in four PGA Tour starts so far this season.
However, he was never in contention to win any of those events and in two DP World Tour events this season he has finished 25th and tied 41st.
After winning the Tour Championship there was a lot of pressure on Fleetwood to go on and win consistently in 2026.
Rather than loosen the load and ease the burden, expectations of the 34-year-old Englishman rose.
So now, after his fairly average start to the 2026 season, the pressure on Fleetwood may well be eased as he heads into Augusta National next week.
And that could be the key to the popular PGA Tour player finally getting over the line at a major championship next week.
Lower expectations on Tommy Fleetwood ahead of The Masters
Fleetwood has now proven to himself that he can win on the biggest stage in America.
The experience he has now after that win at East Lake last year will stand him in really good stead at Augusta National and, indeed, all the other major championships throughout 2026 and beyond.

Flying into Augusta under the radar is exactly what the Englishman needs this year.
There will be no questions regarding his attempts to win for the first time but more importantly for him, not many people believe he’s one of the favorites to win the tournament this year either.
In addition to that, Fleetwood is one of the best ball-strikers in the game, both off the tee and with his irons.
He can work the ball both ways and is capable of hitting whatever trajectory each hole demands.
Now that fans’ expectations of Fleetwood have lowered slightly since the start of the year, he should be able to play Augusta National with somewhat of a carefree attitude.
Not many fans or analysts are talking too much about him right now, but it really shouldn’t surprise anyone if Fleetwood’s first major victory comes at The Masters this year.
