Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant figure in professional golf since he won his first PGA Tour title back in 2022.
Heading into the Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2022, Scheffler was still searching for his first PGA Tour win.
However, he broke through in style in the desert and now has 19 PGA Tour wins to his name including four major championships.
Oh, and the 29-year-old won an Olympic gold medal in 2024 as well!

Scheffler is the best equipped player on the PGA Tour by quite some distance and he is on another level to the best that LIV Golf has to offer.
Considering his recent dominance, it should be no surprise that Scheffler has been compared with Tiger Woods.
Woods is the greatest of all time in the eyes of many but Scheffler has been producing similar numbers over the past two years.
However, there is one major difference between the two players…
The PGA Tour might need a new star due to Scottie Scheffler’s ‘issue’
There is no doubting Scheffler’s talent.
His 2025 season in numbers compared to Woods’ best year in 2000 makes for VERY interesting reading.

Those numbers are pretty similar and considering the fact that that was Tiger’s best ever season, it’s fair to say that Scheffler has earned the right to be compared to the great man.
However, it’s also fair to say that Scheffler will never reach the superstardom that Woods reached throughout his career.
The man from Dallas, Texas, is a completely different character to the 49-year-old, both on and off the golf course.
Scheffler goes about his business quietly and his reactions don’t really change whether he’s just holed a 20 foot eagle putt or tapped in for bogey on a par five.
Another point to note is that because Scheffler is such a good driver of the ball, he doesn’t have much of a chance to hit some of the crowd-pleasing recovery shots that made Woods so popular.
Perhaps that is actually what makes the current world number one so good. He is so consistent with his golf and emotions and never gets too high or too low in reaction to what has happened during a tournament.
However, while that approach to the game is extremely conducive to achieving great results, it isn’t the best in terms of entertainment value.
One thing’s for sure, it would have been easier for the PGA Tour to sell their product to advertisers and sponsors when Woods was at his peak than it is right now with Scheffler at the helm.
However, it’s a fine balance to strike. Do golf fans simply enjoy watching Scheffler because he is so dominant? Or would they like to see more of an outgoing, flamboyant star at the top of the game?

He now has a record 16 consecutive top-8 finishes on the PGA Tour.
Scheffler also holds the record with Patrick Cantlay for the most successive rounds in the 60s after he posted 21 consecutive sub-70 rounds in 2025.

His consistency is quite frankly unbelievable. He finished inside the top-25 in all 20 PGA Tour events that he played last season and recorded 17 top-10 finishes in those tournaments.
Scheffler has won 19 PGA Tour tournaments since February 2022, with four of those victories coming in the majors.
The world number one has the chance to complete the career Grand Slam at Shinnecock Hills in June, with the final round of the US Open set to take place on his 30th birthday.
It’s difficult not to be impressed by what the 29-year-old has achieved in his career to date.
However, it’s easy to see why he doesn’t have the pull that Woods did when it comes to sponsorship deals and the ability to sell tickets.
Scottie Scheffler, the quiet superstar, will never be the type of player or person that Tiger Woods was.
However, he may well match his records one day.
And appreciation for the world number one’s brilliance really should far outweigh the need for a more charismatic PGA Tour superstar.
That said, it would be understandable if the PGA Tour hierarchy is longing for more of a marketable player to come through the ranks in order to take the popularity of their product to a whole new level entirely.
