Having finished near the bottom of the leaderboard at the Travelers Championship, Jordan Spieth’s hopes of earning a place on the Presidents Cup team appear to be fading quickly.
Jordan Spieth‘s form has become a real concern in recent weeks. Since finishing in the top 20 at both the PGA Championship and The CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Spieth missed the cut at the Memorial, and finished outside the top 50 at the US Open and at TPC River Highlands.
Is the era of Scottie Scheffler dominance now over?
How concerned are you with his current form?
The three-time major champion is now 31st in the qualification standings for September’s Presidents Cup at Medinah.
There is a very real possibility that Spieth could miss his third team event in a row.
But there is still reason for hope.
Jordan Spieth is a contender to make a late charge towards a Presidents Cup spot
Firstly, there is still scope for a player on the periphery of Brandt Snedeker’s radar to make a case. Cameron Young was 17th in the Ryder Cup qualification standings after the Travelers Championship, which Keegan Bradley won, 12 months ago.
By the time Bradley named his team, Young had forced his hand. He won the Wyndham Championship and performed superbly in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Young had missed seven cuts earlier in the year.
Spieth has not had a top 10 this season. However, he has finished either 11th or 12th four times, including at The Masters.

He is about to tee it up at the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour. That is an event he has won twice before.
Meanwhile, The Open Championship returns to Royal Birkdale next month.
Of course, on the previous occasion that The Open was held in Southport, it was Spieth who emerged victorious after a dramatic final day for the American.
Admittedly, Spieth had also won the Travelers Championship before. So there was reason to think that he would perform a lot better in Connecticut.
But the last two results could be a real wake-up call to Spieth.
An in-form Jordan Spieth would be a huge boost to Team USA’s 2027 Ryder Cup hopes
Team USA could certainly do with the Texan finding some better form.
While Snedeker should be able to lead his team to a comfortable victory in Chicago, this Presidents Cup is particularly significant.
There is a feeling that the Ryder Cup loss at Bethpage needs to be a turning point for an American side that has not won the event in Europe since 1993 – just months after Spieth was born.
The International team are not to be taken lightly. However, Team USA would be forgiven for having one eye on Adare Manor, and how they are going to be much more competitive against Luke Donald’s side.
Spieth was awful at the 2023 Ryder Cup. But he is one of the few Americans who has shone on European soil in the past, having been superb in 2014.
He has so much to prove before he earns a pick for the Presidents Cup. But Spieth is one of those players that you simply never write off.
