Jim Furyk has been named as the man to bring the glory days back to the United States Ryder Cup team.
Furyk captained the US team to a 17.5-10.5 defeat in Paris eight years ago, but he has been given a chance to rectify that poor showing.
The US Ryder Cup team are in desperate need of a win at Adare Manor in 2027.

That will be an incredibly difficult thing to do, given the strength of the European team and, indeed, their setup.
With the Europeans having won nine of the last 12 meetings with the United States, it’s fair to say that they will be strong favorites in Ireland.
So in order to turn the tide, Furyk will surely be planning some sweeping changes, with more reliance on data and statistics an absolute necessity.
Jim Furyk’s uninspiring message about planned Ryder Cup changes
Furyk spoke on Trey Wingo’s YouTube show about one of the main changes he has planned for 2027.
“I’m headed to go to Adare for the first time on Saturday,“ Furyk responded.
“Tabitha and I are headed over this weekend. I arrive on Sunday.
“I will probably be there three times this year. I want to get a feel for the golf course.
“It’s been redone by Tom Fazio and is supposed to be amazing, in wonderful condition.
“They made some changes over the winter with some grass. I think it’s going to give Luke and his team a chance to possibly change the setup a little bit. You know, maybe add rough or not add rough. I think before it was a little wider.
“They’re looking for flexibility, which makes sense. But I want to see it, get a feel for it.
“Then I’ll go over again, probably a couple of times next year. So I’ll be on property four or five times at least before the Ryder Cup next year.
“And I want some of my players over there. I want them to see the golf course and feel comfortable rather than, you know, stepping foot on it and saying, ‘all right, where’s the 1st hole and where are we going?’
“We’ll get there early. In 2018, we were coming right off the Tour Championship. Tiger’s emotional win and all of a sudden we all get in a plane and fly to Europe and guys are spent.
“This year, we’re going to get in there early, get them used to the time change.
“Just like the Europeans did at Bethpage.“
While getting his team to Adare Manor early in order to give them time to acclimatize to the time difference and conditions is a good thing, it won’t be enough on its own to turn the tide for the US team.
American delusion is a big worry ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup
The American team’s biggest weak point is the fact that they genuinely believe the only reason they lost to the Europeans at Bethpage Black was due to inferior putting.
It’s actually laughable how many high-profile American players have rolled with that narrative as well.

The sheer amount of data that was ignored by Keegan Bradley at Bethpage is frightening, and Furyk was part of that setup.
Bradley may say that he followed the data and statistics, but it doesn’t add up.
If he had, he certainly would not have paired Collin Morikawa with Harris English not only once, but twice.
They were ranked 132nd out of 132 possible US foursomes teams by Data Golf.
The fact that Bradley paired them together once was laughable but to do it twice was unforgivable.
Hopefully Furyk learns from the mistakes that Bradley made at Bethpage.
However, if he thinks that his team arriving to Ireland early will make the difference alone, he will be left very disappointed.
