Bryson DeChambeau should be particularly interested in how Patrick Reed performs at the US Open at a time when the LIV Golf star is apparently considering devoting more of his time to YouTube golf.
There is still a big question mark hanging over where Bryson DeChambeau will be playing in 2027.
His LIV Golf contract expires at the end of the current season. Meanwhile, there are no guarantees that the PGA Tour would be prepared to welcome him back immediately after he snubbed the chance to follow Brooks Koepka earlier this year.
Who will be the biggest name to miss the cut at the US Open?
Shinnecock Hills is going to be a brutal test!
DeChambeau has flirted with the idea of only playing YouTube golf outside of the majors.
That would have previously seemed a ridiculous option. DeChambeau can be guilty at times of trying too hard to be the smartest man in the room. And he would probably love nothing more than to win a major while not playing on the PGA Tour or LIV – regardless of how much belief he has in the latter.
But there is reason to think that playing predominantly on YouTube may be viable – thanks to Patrick Reed.
Why Bryson DeChambeau may be interested in how Patrick Reed fares at the US Open
Unlike DeChambeau, Reed has performed well at both of the first two majors this year. He has not finished outside the top 12 so far.
His display at the PGA Championship was particularly impressive because the American had not played in a tournament since Augusta National.

And Reed is at it again this week. He will tee it up at the US Open having not played since Aronimink.
Obviously, Reed is not filling his time by making YouTube videos. However, he has clearly decided that working away from the spotlight is the best way for him to prepare for the majors.
If he thrives at Shinnecock Hills, DeChambeau can take plenty of encouragement.
Rory McIlroy could also be an influence on Bryson DeChambeau
It is not only Reed who may be giving DeChambeau hope. Rory McIlroy decided that he was better served practicing at Augusta in the weeks leading up to The Masters than playing on the PGA Tour.
It obviously paid off, with the Northern Irishman winning the Green Jacket for a second time.
Who will win the US Open this week? 🏆
Scottie Scheffler is going for the career Grand Slam! 🏌️
He has played in just two PGA Tour events since then.
It seems that players no longer feel compelled to play in tournaments to prepare for the majors.
Of course, it is a big leap to not play on any of the main tours and still expect to be competitive in the majors over the long-term, but DeChambeau is not afraid to go where no golfer has gone before.
