Brooks Koepka has been slowly improving since making his return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf back in January.

However, there is still something missing from Koepka‘s game.

And with The Masters just around the corner, the 35-year-old American needs to contend this week in Houston.

At the start of March, Koepka said he made a breakthrough with his putting during the Cognizant Classic in his home state of Florida.

Since then, he has recorded T-9, T-13 and T-18 finishes on the PGA Tour, so his game is definitely trending in the right direction.

The 35-year-old’s iron play has been exceptional, while his putting has slowly been moving back towards a respectable standard.

However, his driving has been very poor in recent weeks.

Koepka will obviously have to address that quickly ahead of Augusta National next month.

In addition to sorting out his driver woes, there is one more thing the five-time major champion will be desperate to do before The Masters.

Koepka has admitted himself that he is happy with his game in general right now.

After a slow start to life back on the PGA Tour, the American has begun to show us all glimpses of his best form.

However, he still has a long way to go, and he will be fully aware of that fact.

One thing that is missing for Koepka right now is the fact that he is still yet to be in contention to win a tournament on the back nine on Sunday.

That simply has to change, if he is to have any chance of winning The Masters in two weeks’ time.

Koepka is playing at the Texas Children’s Houston Open this week, and whether he wins or not, he needs to find a way of at least being in the mix on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Park.

The 35-year-old did not win on LIV Golf last year. In fact, his last victory came back in August 2024.

Elite golfers do not forget how to win. However, going 18 months without a victory certainly raises doubts about their ability in their own minds.

Time is running out for Koepka if he is to have a genuine chance of winning The Masters this year.

He needs to contend this week in Houston to give himself the belief that he’s capable of winning once again on the PGA Tour.

Of course, he may well decide to play in the Valero Texas Open next week as well.

Even so, time is running out for Koepka as he looks to get the competitive juices well and truly flowing once again.

For the best golfers in the world, there is no feeling like challenging to win a tournament with nine holes to play.

The feelings invoked by being in the mix to win a golf tournament on a Sunday are why all of the elite golfers practice hard and compete in the first place.

Koepka simply hasn’t experienced that feeling enough over the past year or so, and that needs to change quickly before the start of The Masters.
