The three best players of the 2026 PGA Tour season as it reaches the halfway stage

The PGA Tour has now reached the halfway stage of 2026, with 15 weeks having been played and 15 remaining until the postseason.

Up next in the PGA Tour calendar is the Cadillac Championship, where seven of the top 10 golfers in the world are in the field.

That includes world number one Scottie Scheffler, alongside his fellow superstars Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young.

But taking a break from this week’s action is Matt Fitzpatrick, who is undoubtedly among the three best players of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Fitzpatrick has arguably been the standout player this year, with his three wins more than any other player.

Clearly at the very top of his game, the Englishman won the Valspar Championship before a playoff victory over Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage.

And to make his stunning season all the more sweet, Fitzpatrick won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans playing alongside his brother Alex, who is in the field for this week’s Cadillac Championship after earning his PGA Tour card.

Rory McIlroy

Having dealt with a back injury, Rory McIlroy has made just five starts this season, but importantly one of those came at The Masters.

And he produced a truly fantastic display at Augusta National to secure the prestigious green jacket for the second year running, beating Scheffler by one shot.

Elsewhere, he has posted a T2 finish at The Genesis Invitational, with McIlroy – who isn’t playing at the Cadillac Championship – certain to be very satisfied with his efforts in 2026.

Scottie Scheffler

American superstar Scheffler is also enjoying a truly sensational season, even if it hasn’t exactly burst into life just yet, although that is only because of the stunning standards he has set himself in recent years.

But he’s definitely been the most consistent player on the PGA Tour, boasting one win and two runner-up finishes from his eight starts.

Huge success in the near future is very much looking likely, with Scheffler notably leading the way for Strokes Gained: Total this season.

And certainly deserving of an honorable mention, his compatriot Chris Gotterup has two wins for the campaign, and represents the only player other than Fitzpatrick with multiple titles in 2026.
